French & Indian War
The French & Indian War was started because nobody knew whose land the Ohio River valley was part of. This event planted the seed for American revolt. This war freed colonists from the need for protection against the French threat on their frontier. It also gave free rein to the forces working for independence, but the effect of all this was the taxes that the colonist would later pay. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was started because of the amount of money England needed to pay for the French & Indian War. Since the King didn’t have the money he requires several taxes from the colonist to help pay the country’s debt. He taxed printed materials such as documents, different forms of papers, and playing cards, which made the colonist mad. -
Townshend Act
The Townshend Act used all the money collected for imported goods to pay the salaries of British soldiers. This act taxed imported goods to the America colonies.This caused Britain to still need money but they also needed a way to tax the colonies “without offense.” The effect of this was the colonists boycotted British goods again.Yet again this angered the colonists. -
Boston Massacre
This was started by colonists who started rioting because they were angry over the Townshend Act. As the mobs of colonist insulted and threatened them the British soldiers they fired into the crowd and this killed five colonist. -
Tea Act
All taxes on the Townshend act were lifted but the one on tea and it caused the colonists to be angered. This eventually led to the Boston Tea Party as a way of protesting the tax on tea. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea party was a way the colonist protested. They dressed up as Indians and snuck into British Ships and threw crates of tea off of it. They did this because they were upset about the tea act. The effect was that the Intolerable Acts were passed to keep colonist under control. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were laws that were passed to keep colonist under control because of their behavior during the Boston Tea Party. Due to these strict laws the colonist were not happy that their protest was no effective, so they started the Revolutionary War -
“Give me liberty or give me death” speech by Patrick Henry
This speech was give by Patrick Henry during the Virginia Convention to persuade those in attendance to fight Britain for their Independence. Later they gathered Virginia troops to go up against Great Britain. -
Paul Revere and the Battles of Lexington & Concord
Paul Revere and his ride to give colonist a warning about the British coming was one of the most famous parts of the American Revolution. The battle of Lexington and Concord was the war that marked the start of the American War for Independence. The violence from this went from a colonial revolt against British policy into a fight for political independence. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The conflict that started this battle was between British troops and the thirteen colonies. The effect of this battle was that every time the British soldiers got near, the colonists shot them. Eventually the colonist ran out of bullets and gunpowder and lost the hill. Although, the colonist claimed battle since more British were killed and wounded than colonist. -
Thomas Paine’s Common Sense
This piece of literature is single-handedly credited for having a very important role in convincing colonists to take up arms against England. After reading it the colonists has a different outlook on Britain as it advocated independence for the American colonies that were under the Crown. This is important for the American Revolution because it uniting simple and humble citizens and powerful political leaders behind the idea of independence. -
Declaration of Independence
This is one of the most important documents and well known documents of all time. This document was an official act taken by all 13 American colonies in declaring independence from British rule, singed by important figures of that time period. This was very important because it finally stated that the colonist were able to have certain ideals. This was very important because it’s what the colonist have been wanting for a while now.
