    The Sugar Act created a new tax on molasses and sugar imported from locations outside of the British Empire. The main purpose of this tax was to persuade importers to buy from British colonies rather than smuggling it. The colonist reacted with protest, they were more angry because they did not give consent.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was a tax that required all American Colonist to pay a tax on all printed paper. This included documents, cards, and newspapers which caused a major disturbance in the colonies. Colonist responded with protested of "taxation without representation," this act was eventually repealed.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a fight between colonist and a group of British soldiers. It resulted in the killing of multiple colonist and led to more chaos in the colonies. Colonist reacted by using this as a chance to unite the colonies and they used propaganda to gain support.
  • Tea Act

    The tea act resulted in anger in the colonies because it gave the East India Company a monopoly on the sale of teas within the colonies. Colonist eventually responded with the Boston Tea Party, causing major loss to the British.
  • Battles of Lexington & Concord

    Battles of Lexington & Concord
    This battle marked the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The colonist won the battle and proved themselves. The reaction/effect on the colonist was that they gained morale and had a better belief they could actually win.

    Common sense was a writing that was understandable by everyone and supported breaking away from England. This reaction/effect on the colonist was the motivation it provided for the war and pushed people to continue fighting.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was the official documentation of the separation from Britain. It listed the goals for America and their reasoning for separating from British rule. The effect this had on the colonist was that it was a way for them to release their grievances and ultimately declare their independence.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The Battle of Saratoga was the Major Turning Point in the war. It renewed their moral and motivations. It also convinced them and France that they could actually win the war. The effect this had on the colonist was that they got France to assist them in war and turned the tides in their favor.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The battle of Yorktown marked the end of the Revolutionary war. Cornwallis was forced surrender after George Washington and his soldiers had trapped them in Yorktown. The reaction from the colonies was patriotism knowing that had defeated the British and a boost of national pride.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris recognized that the Americas were a free nation and the British also acknowledged their independence. Effect on the colonist was that they had now became a free nation, no longer under British Rule.
