War between great Britain and France fought in the new world known as the Seven Years War. -
Navigation Acts (1763)
Act which regulated trade between England and only its colonies -
Stamp Act
Act passed by the British that taxed colonists forcing them to stamp any sort of papers, & legal documents. -
Quartering Act
Act which forced colonists to provide food, shelter, etc for the British soldiers. -
Townshend Acts
Acts which initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, & tea. -
Boston Massacre
Street fight between colonists and British soldiers due to colonists being angry about the Townshend acts. -
Boston Tea Party
Protest against the British government done by the colonists due to the new tea act; "No taxation without representation." They threw 3 ships of cargo of tea into Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts (aka Coercive Acts)
This is what the colonists called all the new Acts created by the British government. -
Battle of Lexington & Concord (aka “The Shot Heard Around the World”)
First battle of the American Revolutionary War, fought in Massachusetts. Fought by British soldiers and Massachusett colonists to earn their independence. -
Second Continental Congress
Meeting created of delegates from the American colonies to establish the Declaration of Independence. -
Olive Branch Petition
Petition from Congress to the King as a last attempt to formally prevent war from happening. Emphasized loyalty to British crown & rights as British citizens. -

47 page pamphlet written by Thomas Paine, arguing for Independence from Britain for the 13 colonies, & the creation of a democratic republic. -
Declaration of Independence
Document that announced Independence for the 13 colonies from Great Britain. -
Articles of Confederation
Document that established national government created for the US after it declared independence from Great Britain. -
Daniel Shays’ Rebellion
Violent acts of revolt from farmers in Massachusetts due to being in debt after the American Revolutionary War. -
Constitutional Convention May-September 1787
Meeting in Philadelphia with delegates from most states, to revise the AOC but instead created a whole new form of government.
