    Italian explorers kidnapped and Native American Child and took them back to France.
  • Dec 1, 1540

    Tiguex War

    The war was fought between 1540-1541. It was the first war between Europeans and Native Americans in the Western part of the state. It was leas by Francisco Vasquez de Corondo against 12 Pueblos Indian Tribes.
  • Jan 1, 1546

    "New Laws"

    The New World colonist came up with a law that made it legal to enslave Native Americans.
  • Death and destruction

    English settlers in New England killed a whole Pequot Indian Village.
  • Reservation

    The 1st American Indian Reservation was established in New Jersey.
  • Native American Slaves

    By this year there were 20,000 Native American Slaves in California
  • Moving of the Tribes

    The U.S. government started moving the "Five Civilized Tribes" west of the Mississippi river. (Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Choctaw, and Chickasaw tribes)
  • Indian Appropriation Act

    On this date Congress declared that no other tribe could consider themselves as and independent nation.
  • Taking back land

    The U.S. government took back the Black Hills from the Lakota Sioux that violated their treaty.
  • Congressional Act

    Congress made a law that would require all Native American Children to attend Boarding schools.
  • Public Law 280

    The Congress passed a law that transferred jurisdiction of tribal lands to state government.
  • Civil Rights Act (ICRA)

    The Congressional Act revised the Public Law 280. It gave more right sot the Tribes. The State government would have to consult with the reservation when it was dealing with any right of the Native American People.
  • Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA)

    Congress passed a law to help with the epidemic amount of children being transferred into non-Indian families. The law was put in place to give the tribes their own judicial authority regarding their children.
