    The arrival of asian imigrants to Hawaii instilled a fear in the white American population that Japan or China might try to claim Hawaii for their own, this caused the U.S. State department to warm nations to keep their hadns off Hawaii

    This tariff raised the price to import goods from Hawaii, causing the American plantation owners to strive for annexation

    In response to the Mckinley tariff a group of minority whites, with the help of a squad os U.S. Marines, force the old monarchy and the queen to resign power to America. They did this in hopes of annexing Hawaii and thus eliminating the tariff

    Grover Cleveland felt that the people of Hawaii had been treated unfairly and halted the attempted annexation of it. He resused to annex Hawaii for the rest of his time in office

    After Grover Cleveland's term in office ended, Hawaii is quickly annexed into America as a territory, thus elminating the high tariff that had upset the white farmers. Hawaiians didn't really want to be annexed, but were left with little say, as the annexation was pursued more by white farmers looking to turn a profit.
