  • Puritans arrive in America/Mayflower Compact

    The arrival of Puritans to the New world brought a newfound freedom for the settlers. They were able to create their own government and elect representatives through the Mayflower Compact. They had a new hope based on the American Dream.
  • Early Immigration

    The first burst of immigration in the New World was in the early 1700s. These hopeful immigrants came to America looking for a better life for both themselves and their children.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence identified the ideals of this new nation and the reasons for separation from Great Britain. This granted US citizens certain unalienable rights and spelled out what freedom meant.
  • Civil War/ Freedman's rights

    At the end of the Civil War, slaves were freed. They were guaranteed certain rights and took a huge step in equality of the races when the Confederate forces were defeated.
  • Harlem Renaissance

    The Harlem Renaissance was the explosion of African American identity in the 1920s and 1930s. This new development gave African Americans a sense of purpose in America and helped them move towards obtaining the American Dream.
  • Ratification of 19th Amendment

    The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. This was a huge step in the rights of women and the beginning of their accent into obtaining the American Dream for themselves. With the right to vote, they would be able to represent themselves politically and in other aspects of their lives.
  • The Great Depression

    At the crash of the economic boom of the Roaring Twenties left many unemployed as stocks crashed. They were at a loss for obtaining the American Dream for themselves and their families.

    On April 12, 2015, Hillary Clinton introduced her presidential campaign. This was a huge step in the American Dream for women. She had a dream and she went after it, paving the way for the next generation of strong women.
