    With the Declaration of Independence signed, the 13 American colonies offically broe their ties with Great Britain. The colonists were now citizens of the United States of America. No more help would be coming from Great Britain, and a new government would have to be set up.

    The American Frontier was open for exploration and settlement. When people settled the area, there was literally no one in the area to help them. Each person had to do everything they needed to survive or explore.

    With many immigrants coming to America, they had to find jobs. Sweatshops were usually the best work they could find, wvwn though there were long hours with little pay. people needed money to live and were willing to work in such poor conditions.

    Virgina City sprund up around the Comstock Lode, and with it many people with new business intersts. They were trying to make money that other people had already worked for in the mines.

    Blacks free and no longer have to work as slaves on plantations in the South. Blacks move to create own farms in the South.

    With the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad, people could move quickly and easily through the country. No longer did people have to pack up all their belongings to take the long trip across the country.

    United States Frontier Closed
    All the land the United States had acquired had been explored, and towns started to spring up. With towns came people relying on others for goods. For example, a blacksmith must depend on a farmer for food instead of growing it himself.

    THe United States wanted to be a player in the world, and to be like other countries (Great Britain, Spain, France) they had to have colonies. The country needed to elevate its status and have more land to be accepted.

    During the Roaring 20s, Americans focused more on material goods than actual work. Buying on credit (buying something and paying back for it in small increments over time) was popular, and many people bought homes, new technology or stocks.

    With the addition of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, women were no longer expected to work at home. Women were allowed to vote on matters of national importance.
