  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
    The battle of Fort Sumter was the beginning of the Civil War. Commanded by P.G.T Beauregard, the Confederats attacked the fort with approximatly 500 men. For the next 2 days, the fort was continuesly attacked. Commander Robert Anderson only had 85 soldiers under his command during the time of the seige. On April 13, the fort was lost and the Union sorrendered under the confederates with 2 soldiers dead.

  • First Battle of Bull Run

    First Battle of Bull Run
    The very first battle for Land in the Civil War was the first Battle of Bull Run. Commanded by Irvin McDowell, the Union tried a surpise attack under the Confederates commanded by Joseph E. Johnston and P.G.T Beauregard which attempted to attack the Union from the left flank. With Stonewall Jackson comming in and having the Confederates launch a counter attack lead the victory to the Confederates.

    Hampton Roads Naval Battle
    The battle of Hampton Roads was also known as the Battle of the Monitor and Merrimack. It is said that it is the most important naval battle of the American Civil War. The Confederates tried to break the Unions naval blockade from Virginias major cities Richmond, and Norfolk from international trade. Louis M. Goldsborough and John Marston were the commanders of the United States Navy at the time. Buchanan and Jones were the Confederate commanders. The naval blockade remained in place.

    Battle of Shioloh
    Commanded by Uylsses S. Grant, the union was attacked by Albert Sidney Johnston with a surprise attack near the Tennessee River. On the first day, the confederates made an ultimate success with the attack. But the next day, the union fought back and won the battle. The end of the battle was on April 7, 1962. The union had 13,047 losses and the Confederates had 10,699 losses.

    Battle of Antietam
    This was the first major battle to take place in the American Civil War. This battle, also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg. George B. McClellan was the commander of the Union while Robert E. Lee commanded the Confederate troops. McClellan pursuid the Confederates until on the morning of the 17, they attacked the left flank of the Confederates. The union had 75,000 troops with 12,401 killed and the Confederates had 38,000 with 10,316 killed. Union declared victory but it was a draw.
  • Battle of Fredricksburgh

    Battle of Fredricksburgh
    This battle was known as one of the most "one-sided" battles. Major General Ambrose E. Burnside commanded the Union troops while Robert E. Lee commanded the Confederates. Burnside attempted multiple attacks against the Confederates, but he was unable to reach victory. Burnside ordered retreat on Demeber 15. Both sides had a lot of cassualties. The union suffered the majority of the cassualties with 12,653 dead, and only 5,377 Confederates dead.

    Battle of Chancelorsville
    Joseph Hooker of the Union army attacked Robert E. Lee and his army of the Confederetes front and back. With the excessive amount of Lee's soldiers, the Union was defeated. This major battle was fought with massive ammounts of cassualties along with Stonewall Jackson being shot at by friendly fire. Lee commented on this as "lossing of right arm". The battle was over on May 3, 1863

    Battle of the Wilderness
    Commanded by Ulysses S. Grant and George G. Mead, the union never stopped an offensive attack against the Confederates which was commanded by Robert E. Lee. For 3 days, the 2 sides have done nothing but fight and try to menuever on eachothers flanks through the forest. On May 3, 1863, Grant continued offence and pushed the Confederates to what will soon be the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Battle of Vicksburg
    Ulysses S. Grant commanded the Union army against the Confederetes commanded by John C. Pemperton. The Union extricated a bunch of menuevers against the Confederates which lead to their sourender at Vicksburg with nearly no food, shelter, or ammunition. The battle was over on July 4th, 1863.

    Battle of Gettysburg
    The battle was known as the turning point of the war. Both sides had massive casualties. George G. Meade commanded the United States and Robert E. Lee commanded the Confederacy in the battle of Gettysburg. After a long 3 day battle, the Union was announced victorious. This event lead to the famous speech made by President Abraham Lincoln, The Gettysburg Adress.

    Battle of Chickamuaga
    This battle was known for the Union defeat with the 2nd largest amount of casualties followed by Gettysburg. The Union forces were commanded by William S. Rosecrans and Baxton Bragg commanded the Confederates.
  • Spotsylvania

    Spotsylvania
    The battle for the Spotsylvania Court House was the second second major battle in the Civil War of the United States. Ulysses S. Grant and George G. Mead both lead the Union soldiers to batltle against the southern Confederacy commanded by Robert E. Lee. The battle occured at random, sometimes several to constant shots or one to two shots. This lasted from May 8th to May 21st.
  • Siege of Petersburg

    Siege of Petersburg
    The union launched an attack on Petersburg but ended unsuccessfully. They then dug trenches that went on for more than 30 miles. Trench warefare lasted for 9 months with Ulysses S. Grant slowly cutting off resources from Richmond to Petersburg. Under General Robert E. Lee, they finally sourenders from the pressure given by the Union. The siege ended on March 25, 1865.
  • Shirmans March To the Sea

    Shirmans March To the Sea
    Commanded by Maj. Gen. William Tecumesh Sherman lead the union to the port of Savannah. They deployed after they took over the city of Atlanta, Georgia on November 15. It took 6 days for them to travel and they reached their destination on December 21. Because of this bold strategy, the south was crippled to wage war.
  • Abraham Lincoln Assasination

    Abraham Lincoln Assasination
    On a Friday evening, Lincoln attended a play at Fords Theatre in Washinton D.C. His assasonator, John Wilks Booth snuck past the presidents security, and sat right behind Abraham Lincoln. Booth pulled out a Philadelphia Derringer pistol and shot Lincoln in the back of the head. Henry Rathbone tried to portect the president but got injured in the process. Booth jumped off the balcony and broke his leg. He escaped, but was later tried, and hung. Abraham Lincoln died the next morning.
