    The fugitive slave act was amended, Slave trade in Washington D.C was abolished, California was a free state in the union.

    Let the people living in Kansas and Nebraska decide if they wanted slaves or not. This Act made the north very angry.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    A bunch of fights in Kansas on the borders because of political issues that had to do with anti-slavery.
  • The Dred Scott Decision

    The Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a slave, The court decided that Scott was not free just because he was in a slave free state. Because slaves are not people they are property of their owner and under the law: the owner should not lose that property, and the owner can do what he wants with that property.
  • Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

    Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
    There were 7 debates between Lincoln and Douglas. The debates eventually led to Lincoln's election. All 7 debates took place in Illinois. The debates were all political and some consisted of talking about slavery.
  • Harper's Ferry

    John Brown raided Harper's Ferry. John's goal was to destroy slavery. His attempt failed and John was tried and found guilty and was sent to the gallows where he got executed.
  • Lincoln's Election.

    Lincoln's Election.
    Lincoln was the first republican president to be elected. The Civil war happened one month after Lincoln became president. Lincoln getting elected was not the biggest cause of the Civil War but it was one of the causes. Lincoln decided to fight and not let the southern states drop out of the union.
  • Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter
    Fort Sumter is where the first shots were fired of the Civil War. The confederates opened fire on Fort Sumter and the shots lasted all day. The Union didn't have enough ammunition to fire back as much as the confederates were shooting but they did fire back enough to keep up their defense on Fort Sumter. It ended with the Union surrendering the fort and leaving.

    The Bull Run was the first major battle on land. The Civil War really didn't start until the Battle of the Bull Run, which took place in Virginia. The battle was The Union against the Confederate forces, The Union opened fire on the confederate forces across the Bull Run.
  • Antietam

    The Battle of Antietam was the "Single most bloodiest day in american military history". The Union attacked the confederates and the confederates responded by attacking the Union. The battle was considered a tie between the confederate's and the Union but really the Union won.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    Abraham Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation declared that all the slave's left in the slave states are free. The Emancipation Proclamation didn't actually free any slaves but it did open up people's eyes and was a big turning point in the war. The Emancipation Proclamation turned the war into a fight for Human Freedom.

    The confederates attacked the Union in the North and won and with their great confidence from that win they decided to attack the north a second time. There was lot's of fighting and bloody fighting. Both sides suffered big loses. Barely half of the Confederates were left an there attempt to invade the north had failed the confederates had lost.

    Gettysburg address is a speech made by Abraham Lincoln, and in it one of the thin's Lincoln talks about is dedication to "Soldier's National Cemetery, a cemetery for Union soldiers killed at the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War." Lincoln also talked about how he thought the Civil war was a test to see if the union would last or would not last.
  • Andersonville Prison

    Andersonville Prison
    Andersonville prison called Camp Sumter was a confederate military prison. It was the Souths largest prison for captured union soldiers, it was known for it's unsanitary conditions and had a high death rate. A main reason for the unsanitary conditions of Andersonville Prison was because it was created to hold 10,000 men but three times that many were kept there and they had a small stream for the prisoners which soon became "a cesspool of disease and human waste".
  • Surrender at Appomattox Court House.

    The Union blocked the Confederate's retreat and the Confederate general had no other option then to surrender which was called the Surrender at Appomattox Court House. The Confederate General surrendered around 28,000 troops to the Union's general ending the Civil War. The Union won the Civil War.

    John Wilkes Booth shot and killed President Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was at a play at Fords theatre when he got assassinated. The people involved in President Lincoln's assassination were executed by a hanging.
  • Reconstruction

    In the beginning of reconstruction the Southern states passed the "Black Codes" The North became outraged by the "Black Codes". The "Black Codes" were made by the South to "control the labor and behavior of former slaves." (The Northern states are free states and the Southern states are Slave states.) In Radical Reconstruction blacks got a say in the government for the first time in history!!
