  • Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter
    This battle was placed at Fort Sumter (hense the name) after South Carolina secceded into its own nation call the Confrederate States of America of CSOA. After the seceded the two counties had an arguement over who owned Fort Sumter. Later on the Union attacked the Fort and Lost. This battle became the first battle of a gruesome war.
  • First Manassas

    This battle was the first major land battle in Virginia. McDowell attacked the Confederate armies left flank with a bang. This battle made Lee's army retreat back to Shenandoah Valley to train the troops for the next battle.
  • Antietam

    Maj. Gen. George B McClellan confonts Lee's army in the battle of Antietam. This confrintation was placed in Sharpsburg, Maryland, This was the single most bloody day in military history. During the night, Burnside's troups arrived at the scene and helped.
  • Ball's Bluff

    Brig. Gen. Nathan Evans stops a very uncoordinated attack on Harrison's Island. The Union capture over 700 troups by the end of the battle. Col. Edward D. Baker was killed durring the battle. This battle led to the creating of the "Congressional Joint Committeeon the Conduct of War".
  • Fort Henry

    A fort with out dated guns, a 0% chance of winning, and the threat of the Tennessee River overflowing into the camp every time it rained. They had no chance of winning. When Gen. Grant landed two divisions in two places to attack Fort Henry. Grant order the cannons to bombard the fort until it fell. With the take over of Henry and Donelson 10 days later, the Confederate army had just lost its main source of transporting troops into battle.
  • Fort Donelson

    Donelson was lost on The 16th of February to the same group that had taken Henry only 10 days ago. This win was a huge win for Gen. Grant. His troops had traveled cross country to win this battle. The Confederates surrendered the day of the attack and this battle became a second win for Gen. Grant in 20 days.
  • Shiloh

    THis battle was basicall a giant hornets nest, Hense the name "The Hornets Net at Shiloh". This battle was basically based on the possition of the armies and the confederates had the better possition because they had a Ditch to hide behind. The Union won for only one reason. Buell's Army arrived late and they used his troops to serve as a supprise attack and this pushed them back enough to get all the troops up and into battle and make them retreat.
  • Fredricksburg

    Gen. Burnside is now in control of the Army of Potomac andhas sent some or his troops to accupy and area near Fredricksburg. The rest of the troops soon followed. Some Union troops led by Lee came to Fredricksburg and Burnside readied for battle by puting his troops in trenches. This turned ou to be a good idea because the troops retreated on the 15th after high casualties on the Confederate.
  • Chancelorsville

    This battle lasted from April 27th to May 6th. ON the 1st of May, Hooker pulled back into a defensive possition. ON May 3rd the Confederate army led by Lee attacked Hookers army in two different sections. This battle was won by Lee and is known as Lee's most important victory.
  • Vicksburg

    This battle was at the end of May and the begining of July. This battle was not very large but it gave Grant the General-in-Cheif of the Union Armies later in the war.
  • Gettysburg

    This battle lasted from July 1st -3rd. Gettysburg involed some of the larger name in the was such as Robert E. Lee, George Meade, and Picket on day 2.During the first might reinforcement arrived for both armies.
  • The Wilderness

    This was a 3 day battle lasting until the 7th. Union army led by Grant attacked some confederate troops and won because of the Confederates being very unorganized.
  • Cold Harbor

    Sheridan's calvary seized the vital crossroads of old Cold Harbor. This triggered almost the entire Army to reforce because this is a main weapon route for everybody.
  • Appomattox Courthouse

    Robert E. Lee, John Gorgon, and GItzhugh Lee's armies made a force around Appomattox Court House. They attacked on the tenth and ended up being surrounded and surrendering at the end of the day. This was the final engagement in the war at Virginia.
