  • 1st & 2nd Battle of Bull Run

    1st & 2nd Battle of Bull Run
    1st battle: Lincoln was in a rush to get the battle over with. The union attacked the south led by Irvin McDowell. South led by General Jospeh E. Johnston. Immediatley Linccoln signed a bill for the enlistment of 500,000 men. Replaced Irvin Mcdowell with George McClellan.
    2nd battle: August 28, 1862. North led by John Pope. South led by General Robert E. Lee. Low blow to the union. Clashed at Battle of Ox Hill on September 1st.
  • Siege of Vicksburg

    U.S Grant vs. John T. Pemberton. Ended July 4th of that year. Union Victory. Union army was campaigning through the south. North captured city. Cutting south into two pieces. A major part of the Anaconda Plan, Town was left in almost complete ruins. Grant became a well known Genreal. Took Texas and Louisiana basically right out of the war. Dug caves to escape artillery.
  • Battle of Atlanta

    Northern was William Sherman. Replaced by General Black Jack Logan, Southern side was General Johnston but then he was replacd by Jerfferson. South had element of surprise and outnumbered the union. Sherman decided to burn every building and supply in Atlanta. Women hospitalized the soldiers. They passed the Homestead Act. This battle is said to be the reason Lincoln was elected. It increased Northern Morale.
  • Shermans March to the Sea

    "Savannah Campaign". A march from Atlanta to Savannah, GA. Burned every crop, building or livestock. North remained normal. The south really suffered and lived in fear Sherman due to his tourment. Sherman gave Lincoln a gift, giving up Savannah with guns, ammunition and cotton. African Americans assisted with the march. Sherman used psychological tactics during the war to install fear. Unconditional Warfare. Eliminated Atlantas war making potential.
