    Dams were built which highly benefited farmers, they had a constant supply of water to keep their lands and crops from drying out.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act

    Pure Food and Drug Act

    In about 1906 the government passed the pure food and drug act, making it so all agricultural food had to be inspected. The farmers then had to find ways to ensure the purity and cleanliness of their food. This then lead to sprayers later on in the 1900's
  • Introduction of Machines

    Introduction of Machines

    The introduction and manufacturing of farm equipment and machine decreased the amount of manpower and hard fieldwork. This saved lots of time and energy and bettered the production of farms.
  • Agricultural Education

    Agricultural Education

    As more and more people moved to cities, the need for people in the production of food and fiber increased. So, the federal government made agricultural education courses for soldiers and farmers/future farmers.
  • WW1 Boom

    During WW1 the need for farmers skyrocketed. The farmers also benefited during this time because prices of goods more than doubled.
  • Rural Migration

    Rural Migration

    WW1 wore out the farmers and the were envious of city life. Lots of farmers were broke from buying equipment to keep up production during the war so their farms were shut down.

    At this point, everyone was tired of the rural life and wanted new things like electricity and plumbing, so everyone started moving to cities. This left some farmers to run out of business.

    Downfall of Farmers

    After the war, over 1 million farmers were left out of money and hope. This agricultural depression was the start of the great depression.

    In 1928, The future farmers of america, or the FFA was formed. It was formed by 33 students in hopes to bring agriculture jobs 'back to life'. It was also developed during a time where boys were losing interest in this field and leaving the farm.
  • The Crash

    Stock market started to crash, reducing prices of crops and produced goods. This took a big toll on the agriculture industry.
  • Drought

    Drought

    In the early 1930's everything started to dry up; resulting in failed crops, farmers short of money, cattle with no feed, etc.
  • Struggling Farmers

    Struggling Farmers

    After the crash, farmers had to learn to adapt to their new living conditions and find a way to make money. They started planting less plentiful crops earlier in the year to be able to make some profit.
