    First Band of Paleo-Indians
    Even though the first traces of intelectual humans within the Adirondacks can be noted as the Paleo Indians, it is likely to believe that people have been traveling on that soil since the dawn of man; as early as 9000-BC.
  • Indian War Migration

    Indian War Migration
    During the French and Indian War, many soldiers settled in the area of the Adirondacks. Origins varied from French, Scotish, Irish. Following these men sono after came and even larger migration of New England soldiers post American Revolution.
  • Yankee Migration

    Yankee Migration
    (1760-1820) This band of migrants are known as the New England Soldiers fromt he American Revolution that have settled here during, or after the war. Since they were the earliest known, well speaking english-men, it is called the "Yankee" Migration. They were also called Quakers.
  • Irish Refuges from the Great Famine

    Irish Refuges from the Great Famine
    New jobs and growing industry drew in many migrants from the Ireland area. The Geat Famine of 1846 caused great re-location, resulting in many Irish laborors and refuges. However, Irish laborers have been known to be around the Adirondacks since the 1770's. Irishmen continued to migrate and work within the Adirondacks untill late 1800's- early 1900's.

    ( 1880-1960's ) As the private and Great Camps became established, workers such as African Americans were utilized as Servents within these Great Camps. African-Ameriacn workers were placed in hotels as well to work as kitchen staff or waiters
  • Catholic Church

    Catholic Church
    Catholics were the earliest migrated religion knonwn within the Adirondacks. Catholic influence had been around before the 1890's however, the first marraige within a Catholic Church on Raquette Lake, in 1890.
  • Tourism

    Tourism
    (1892- Now) Because of the establishment of markets, hotels, and camps within the Adirondacks along with growing industry, the Adirondacks became an International Destination. Tourists of ALL origins flooded into the Adirondacks as early as the late 1800's. However tourism was growing, to 'vacation' was only begining to be thought of by the rich.
  • French + Irish

    French + Irish
    The most plentiful of races within the Adirondacks at this time were the Irish and French-Canadian. Most market places were undoubatbly either owned by the Irish or French. And schools within the Adirondacks were almost always full of kids originating from Ireland. Both races were so plentiful, that conflict between the two were almost routine.
  • Jewish

    Jewish
    Different religions also migrated to the Adirondacks. In the 1900's, Jewish families in Tupper Lake built what is known as the Synagogue. However Jewish immigrants were not as likely in the years to come and they remained scarce in the ADK's during the 1920's.
  • Others

    Others
    Because of the growing economy and industrial evolution within the adirondacks that came with the settlement of countless communities, Jobs needed to be filled. Workers varying from Italians, Hungarians, and Swedwns began to migrate tot eh Adirondacks as soon as jobs became renown. Greek comunities were also notable amongst the numerous other settlers.

    The disasters following, as well as during, World War II caused another surge of settlers to emerge in the Adirondacks. Ukrainian refugue families came to the Adirondacks following the war to escape the ravaged Europe/ Asain communities.
  • Amish + Chinese

    Amish + Chinese
    Since post WWII, Asian immigrants have had a steady flow into the Adirondacks. Only recently has Amish and Asian migrants came to the ADK's Asian influence can be noted as several Chinese restaurants becan to emerge. The Western Adirondacks can be notabley taken by the Amish, for it is lavish with farmland.

    Numerous origins are still coming to the Adirondacks with examples of various communities all around such as Chinese, Italian, and French Restaurants. With Its plentiful wildlife and fantastic outdoor experiences, today, the Adirondacks is an internation attraction that everyone wishes to experience, drawing in thousands of travelers a year.
