Thomas Jefferson won the the elections and became president. The runner-up John Adams was the vice president. It was a close call though. Jefferson had 73 votes and Adams had 65. But Thomas pulled out at the end. -

This case brought on the checks and balances system in the government. One branch of the government can overrule another branch. No branch is more powerful than the other. -
Louisiana Purchase
828,000 square miles was sold to the United States, by France, for 15 million dollars. The Louisiana Purchase purchased 14 whole or parts of states including Missouri, Kansas, North and South Dakota and New Mexico. -
Lewis & Clark reach the Pacific Ocean
This adventure helped expand the United States to the Pacific Coast. Lewis and Clark were assisted by a half French, half Shawnee Indian named George. -
Treaty of Ghent
This treaty ended the war of 1812. Great Britian and the United States were the ones to sign the treaty. The treaty released all prisoners and restored the land. Upper Canada was given to Britain and Michigan and Maine were given back to the United States. -
Andrew Jackson Elected President (1st Term)
Andrew Jackson was the 7th president. He ran for the Democratic Party. For his inaguration, he invited the public to the White House. He was the first president to do this.
