    The Lencans were the largest group of Mayans in Ancient Honduras. They created beautiful pottery and traditional fabrics that are still part of the Honduras culture today.

    Religious Beliefs
    The Mayans worshiped may deities. They offered many things such as incense, beautiful objects, and the lives of humans and animals. During the period of decline, wars were fought to capture human sacrifices.

    Around the time of the decline of the Mayan Empire, many cities were deserted. Cities were deserted possibly because of war and lack of reasources.

    Decline of the Mayans
    A few centuries before the Spanish came to Honduras, many of the Mayan cities started to disapear. Historians aren't exactly sure why this happened, but they think that it might have had to do with overpopulation. Other possible ideas would be drought and an epidemic of some sort.

    Christopher Clolumbus fist came to Honduas
    Christopher Colubus first came to Honduras in 1502. Soon after Honduras was claimed to be Spanish territory. This lead to many changes in the culture of the people of Honduras.

    In 1821, Honduras gained independence from Spain, and became part of the Federal Republic of Central America. It wasn't until 1840 until honduras beacme an independent state.

    Soccer Wars
    The Soccer Wars was an ongoing conflict between Honduras and El Savador, starting early in the year of 1969, having mainly to do because of economic problems and immagrants. The war was nicknamed the Soccer Wars because of a three-game elimination matches during the World Cup, that both countries were in. Later, war was actually fought betweeen the two countries. Tension between the two countries didn't subside until later years.

    Hurricane Fifi
    Hurricane Fifi killed about 8,000 people, and destroyed 80% of the bannana crop. The total damage estimated to be about 900 million dollars. Hurricane Fifi left Honduras devastated.
