    The village of Lovas is targeted by an artillery bombardment and is occupied by Serb paramilitary forces. Houses and churches were destroyed, people were mistreated and tortured, and graveyards were desecrated. Seventy-five civilians were murdered.

    The operation was one of the biggest European land offensives. The offensive started early on Aug. 4 and ended with a Croation victory about four days later. The operation was used to gain control of parts of Croatia that were claimed by ethnic Serbs.
  • Erdut Agreement

    Officials signed the Erdut Agreement which gave Croatia control of part of eastern Slavonia and it allowed refuges to return home.
