    The first daycare appeared in France, also known as Société des Crèches. Société des Crèches translates to daycare society. Daycares started out as charitable institutions to care for infants of working class women. Goals of the daycare founders included encouraging maternal breastfeeding to reduce infant mortality and functioning as a school for mothers to teach them hygienic infant care practices. Provided by:
