    in 1862 the homestead act was created. It let single women get the same rights as men. But married and widowed women couldnt get land. they got 160 acres of land and lived on the land for 5 years.

    In montana the sioux,cheyenne,and the arapaho warriors stsged a series of attacks on the troops. it was a really bloody battle. the sioux came out the winners.

    in 1874 George Custer heard rumors about there being gold in the hills of the dakotas. So he took his army and went on a expedition to look fo gold. He found out that there was in fact gold there. But the thing was the sioux Indians didn't want custer and his army there.

    it involved the sioux indians and george custer and his army. George custer attack the sioux indians. the sioux indians had 1000's of warriors while george custer had only 250 soliders. the sioux indians won. It showed that the Sioux indians were stronger than we thought.

    In 1890 the sioux indians did a dance called the ghost dance where they lived in south dakota. then the reservations officers banned the dance and then they arrested siting bull since he was the leader. During a scuffle with sitting bull the police shot him and sitting bull died.Its significant because it was a way for the sioux indians to express there culture that was dying.

    In south dakota the sioux indians fled to a lake called wounded knee out of fear. When the army came to take the sioux's weapons. No one knows who started the fight all they heard was a pistol shot. More than 200 sioux indians and 25 soliders were killed.the winner was the army. it was significant because it marked the end of the conflict between the whites and the native americans.
