  • Homestead Act

    Homestead Act
    Congress passed this and it gave 160 acres. This let the settlers live on the land for 5 years but they had to pay a filing fee. This act lured many settlers, including some that wanted to become american citizens. Even though woman were married they could not claim there own land.
  • Fetterman Massacre

    Fetterman Massacre
    Sioux, Cheyenne, Arapaho worriors planned attacks. The worst battle was on Dec. 21 1866, troops had a fort to use to get the the gold in montanna. Sioux leader attacked the troops and led them into a trap. He sent 80 soldiers in to a pursuit by tricking the forts commander. Hundreds of soldiers were killed going into an ambush where warriors were waiting for them.
  • Treaty of Fort Laramie

    Now current day Wyoming is where fort Laramie used to be. The treaty's purpose is to make peace with the Sioux Indians. The Sioux moved to a reservation in the Dakotas, called the Black Hills. They agreed to stop attacking the whites. This was a win for the U.S. goverment
  • 1874 Discovery

    The black hills of the dakotas. No white men were aloud on this land,people were lead here to find gold. It was rumered that there was gold on the hills. Custer lead an army to seek gold,they found that the rumers were true. The goverment tried to buy the hills, the leader Sitting Bull would not agree to selling the hills. They were later moved on to the reservations.
  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    Battle of Little Bighorn
    Sitting Bull brougt together warriors to fight the U.S army. The differnt warriors were Crazy horse, another Sioux chief and his forces. The U.S. army was ordered to move the native americans to the reservation. The army was lead by George Custer he wanted this voctory more then anyone. they attacked the native americans june 25th 1876. The native americans were stronger then they thought, the native americans won. The news of the lose was a shock to the nation.
  • Ghost Dance

    Ghost Dance
    Native Americans lives were changed forever by the Dawes act. the Sioux turned into Wovoka for profit. The Suix had to regain there greatness by performing a goast dance. The ghost dance helped express the Sioux culture. After the dance was banned police went and arrested the cheif and shot sitting Bull.
  • Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee
    After the killing of Bull's, the Lakota Sioux gathered near a creek called wounded knee. Wounded knee is located in south west Dakota. On the 29th of Dec. 1890 an army went to collect the Sioux weapons. A pistol shot started a fight with the army and Sioux. More than 225 died all together.
