    Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party in Oakland California. It was Made for self-defense. It was the first organization in U.S. to militantly struggle for ethnic minority and working class emancipation. The Panther Party fought against the U.S. government, and fought to establish revolutionary socialism through mass organizing and community based programs.

    First Issue
    Was the first issue of the black panthers. They marched on the california state capital fully armed trying to protest against the state's attempt to outlaw carrying loaded weapons in public. following this they arrested 30 members of the party, but this started the party to grow through-out different states
  • "Free Huey"

    "Free Huey"
    police arrest the defense minister of the party, Huey Newton for killing an Oakland cop. Eldridge Cleaver. a Panther, begins the "Free Huey", a stuggle the Panthers would devote a great deal of the attention to in the coming years. Carmichael is adamantly against allowing whites into the black liberation movement, explaining whites cannot relate to the black experience and have an intimidating effect on blacks.

    COINTELPRO
    the Party makes Mao's Red Book a required book to read. Its also get them to buy shotguns. Meanwhile, the FBI, under J. Edgar Hoover, begins a program called COINTELPRO (counterintelligence program) to break up the spreading unity of revolutionary groups that had begun solidifying through the work and examaple of the Panthers. To destroy the Party, FBI would kill the main leaders then a series of arrests, followed by a program of psychological warfare, to break them up potitically and morally

    Bobby Hutton, 17, was shot by Oakland police. In the 90 minute gun battle, Bobby was force to run out and get shot 10 ten times since they set his house on fire. Two days after the assasination of Martin Luther King Jr. Two months later was the assasination of Robert Kennedy, widely recognize in the minority community
  • Fred Hampton

    Fred Hampton
    In Chicago, the outstanding leader of the Panthers local, Fred Hampton, leads five different breakfast programs on the West Side, helps create a free medical center, and initiates a door to door program of health services which test for sickle cell anemia, and encourage blood drives for the Cook County Hospital. The Chicago party also begins reaching out to local gangs to clean up their acts, get them away from crime and bring them into the class war. December 4th he was murdered by the police

    Spliting the Panthers
    the alliance between the Panthers and SNCC begins ripping apart. One of the main points of dispute is the inclusion of whites in the struggle for minority liberation, a dispute which is pushed into an open gun fight at the University of California in Los Angeles against the group US, led by Maulana Karenga, which leaves two Panthers dead. In September, in the government's court house, Huey Newton is convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 2 to 15 years in prison
