SOLD! The Louisiana Purchase was one of the best deals in US history which was bought from a good partner, France which doubled our land. This great deal was bought at $15 million which is cheap for all that land. It summed up to 4 cents per acre. The reason why the US wanted this land is for the Mississippi River for its trading routes and the leader of France, Napoleon needed money for an upcoming war.US doubled in size and made 15 more states.That is how the US doubled up for a cheap price. -
The Corps of Discovery
Onwards explorers! The Corps of Discovery was a great expedition to get to the Pacific Ocean through the northwest passage. Less than a year after the Louisiana territory was bought, Thomas sent Lewis and Clark to journey into the unknown. Along the way they met a girl named Sacajawea which became their translator and pro survivalist.later they had found the Pacific Ocean. But no passage which lost spirit. The epic journey came to an end as one of the greatest adventures in history. -
War of 1812
This war is also known as the forgotten war and it ended in a stalemate but it gave the US nationalism. The battle of New Orleans was the most famous battle because Andrew Jackson had won that battle as a common man before he was a president and kept that area for trading route. People don't remember this war because it ended in a stalemate, that is why no one remembers. This is how Star-Spangled Banner came to be by a US prisoner. Even though it was a stalemate, it gave us nationalism. -
Florida Territory
The Florida Territory was originally belonged to Spain, until we stole it from the inside. The main reason the US took the land was not known at all by the government, only by the troops taking over Spanish forts by Andrew Jackson. The main reason US invaded was because of Indians taking and kill crops, so the US only wanted to take out the Indians. But Jackson took one step too far by stealing the land by making the president of Spain sign a contract to give the land to the US. -
The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was a document to keep out neighboring countries out of our business and we will keep out of theirs. The main reason was because too many immigrants were coming into the US. Monroe created this document to keep out immigrants or we took it as a hostile move. It was also a good thing for other countries because it stated we can't interfere with them and we will be left alone. That is why the Monroe doctrine was made for, to keep out others. -
Indian Removal act
The Indian removal act was a bad thing for Indians which made them move onto the trail of tears. It was signed by Andrew Jackson to move the Indians to a reservation known as the red desert or Oklahoma. The Indians have to move on a trail which they were not prepared for called the trail of tears. Many believe that it was meant to be for manifest destiny. But some thought it was wrong. But government moved them for manifest destiny. The indian removal act was a big part in manifest destiny. -
Texas
Texas was once part of Spain then country by itself and part of US. Spain took over this land ,but some texans did not like the rules they have so they went to war, they won independence by winning the war. The Alamo was where texans took refuge as shelter and later taken and killed whoever was inside. Later in the war they used it as a saying "remember Thea Alamo!". Later taken into the US by Sam Houston asking to be a state in the US. Now Texas is part of the US as a slave state back then. -
Oregon Territory
The final piece to the US's puzzle of Manifest Destiny is the Oregon Territory. James K. Polk really wanted that landform trading purposes. He said "54, 40 or fight!" That means he would go to war for it. They compromised on 49 parallel line which both sides liked. That is how we got the final piece to the manifest destiny belief. -
Mexican American War and The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
War has came for Mexican territory that the US wanted. The war ended by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and gave the US southern territory. Mexico was forced to sign it because they have lost the war. James K. Polk was known as "Mr. Manifest Destiny" for acquiring southern territory and many other. Mexico had lost the war and because of that, we now have America as we see it today.
