5 Events Leading to the Revolutionary War

  • Colonists arrive in Jamestown, Virginia

  • The Sugar Act

    A tax on sugar and molasses that the colonial merchants were supposed to pay. Many merchants chose not to pay it and the bought from other countries. This act ended up being revoked but many came like the stamp act, townsend duties, and the tea act to get more money because Britain had a lot of debt from the 7 years war.
  • Boston Massacre

    A mob attacked Brittish Soldiers with snowballs, stones, and sticks then many were injured and some killed. This was a main point in when the colonists would turn against Britain because now blood was shed.
  • The Tea Act

    This was meant to help the East India Company sell their abundant amount of unsold tea at a reasonable price. This would undercut buisnesses in the colonies and was seen as another punishment by the British. This led to the The Boston Tea Party.

    Boston Citizens threw 342 chests of tea overboard at night disguised as native americans. This led to more of the ships with tea to be sent back in other colonies. This led to the intolerable acts.
  • The Intolerable acts (Meaning)

    There were five intolerable acts and they were caused by the colonists rebellions against the british. The five acts were the Boston Port act (Britsh closed the Harbor in Boston), Adminisration of Justice (Soldiers were allowed to use force needed to handle colonists), Massachusetts Governing Act (Government officials were appointed by British, Quartering act of 1774 (Soldiers are allowed to sleep in your home whenever needed), Quebec Act (Quebec was given back to the French).
  • Intolerable Acts (Importance)

    This was important because the colonists were all around upset and mad especially in Boston but otheres in other colonies were also. They shared a common dislike for the British and would end up meeting on how to deal with them also known as the First Continental Congress.
