    American Events

  • Hubble Space Telescope

    Hubble Space Telescope
The Hubble Space Telescpe was first launched into space on April 24th, 1990, Although it is not the first space telescope, it is the most versatile and one of the largest. It is used for space reasearch and astronomy purposes and has given us a new look on our solar system. The impact the telescope has had on our country, and the world is enormous because it has given us new insight into the world outside of our Earth.
  • The Internet

The internet was created around Christmas time in the year 1990. It was not always intended for recreational use as it was first created to link scientists and universities together to provide data for eachother. But after the government saw how big of a boom the internet had caused they created more and more to make the World Wide Web we know today. The internet is one of the biggest events in our history because close to everyone on this planet uses it for one purpose or another.
  • 27th Amendmant

The 27th Amendmant declares that no Congressional salaries may change until after the next start of represenatives for office. This law had been submissed almost 200 years early, and was now ratified because of potential conflict of interest. I believe that this is a major event in American History, because no law makers should have the right to create their own salaries out of no where unless the American People have a voice to it.
  • The Oklahoma City Bombing

When American Militia Movement Sympathizer Timothy McVeigh and his accomplice Terry Nichols destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in downtown Oklahoma City, 168 people died and 800 were wounded. The effect of this bombing was $652 million dollars worth of damage and the first real act of terriorism on American Soil. I think that this was a major event in our history because this really showed us that we not only have to worry about other countries, but the people living right next door
  • Columbine High School Massacre

Two senior students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went on a rampage killing 12 students and one teacher and injuring 24. They then commited suicide after the killings, and this became the fourth deadliest school massacre in history. I went to Columbine and it is truly crazy to think that all that happened, and I think it has made an impact on everyone, perhaps even giving the wrong people ideas, as this isn't the only time it has happened.
  • 9/11

This is the biggest Terrorist Attack on American Soil and around 2,995 deaths resulted from hijackers from over 70 different nationalities taking planes and running them into the World Trade Center. It was a huge impact on everyone, because most people did not understand why it happened. It also tightened our security at airports, and anywhere a weapon could cause damage.
  • Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster

The loss of Columbia was a result of a small foam part the size of a brief case breaking off and sending the space shuttle spiraling towards Texas. All seven crew members died, and were expected to have completed their 28th mission. The loss of this space mission were very dramatic, because it showed us that exploring our universe can come at dealdy costs. This also costed billions of dollars in damage, and the end to the Columbia legacy.
  • Iraqi Freedom

The initial start of the war as said by our 43rd president George W. Bush, was to " disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), to end Saddam Hussein's support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people." This was is still going on today and it has caused many debate in our nation. Is it right, is it wrong? That is the question asked over and over again. The war in itself has caused turmoil, but also a breaking in our communities.
  • The Global Recession

The Global Recession officially began on this date, when global stock markets crashed and the world is scavenging for money. This has caused many people to lose their jobs, healthcare, and many cannot even support their families. The Great Recession as it is called, is a big part of our history, because we will need to pick up the pieces of our nation and become a better one from the get go.
  • Barrack Obama

The first African American President was elected on this date, winning by a land slide against his competitor John McCain. Is logo and trademark, "Change" won him the love of the Anerican people, and a new outlook on how we can make American a bigger melting pot full of love for everyone of any color.
