    Crusaders begin the conquest of Lebanon, capturing Beirut, Sidon, and Tripoli.

    The Ottoman Turks began conquering the region. The Lebanese people joined on the Turks side and were granted semi-independance.
  • Division

    Lebanon was split into two peices, one section for christians and one for Druzes.
  • Conflict

    The Druzes and christians began fighting only a few months after the country was split.
  • Massacre

    Massacre
    The Druzes killed 10,000 christians. The Ottoman government finnaly stopped the violence because of pressure from the French.

    Lebanon declared independance from the French who had controlled it since the end of WWI.
  • War

    War
    Lebanon, along with many other Islamic countries declared on Israel. Nearly 100,000 Palestinians fled to Lebanon, where they reamain refugees.
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    The Lebanese Civil War lasted fifteen years, devastating the country's economy, and resulting in massive loss of human life and property. It is estimated that 150,000 people were killed and another 200,000 wounded.
  • Cedar Revolution

    The Prime Minister was killed in a car bomb. Syrian troops were ordered to leave Lebanon.
  • Syrian troops leave

    After entering the country at the start of the civil war in 1975 at the request of Lebanon, Syrian forces finally leave the country.
  • Mehlis Report

    Many high ranking members of the Syrian and Lebanese government are implicated as being involved with the assassination.
  • Terrorism

    Hezbollah and Amal militants seize the city of Beirut, in order to secure a power sharing deal with the ruling political party.
