4.6: Harrasment, Intimidation, and Bullying

  • Issue 1

When someone is abused, it can lead to many problems. Different types of abuses are physical and mental harassment, intimidation, and bullying. “It is also possible to bully people emotionally, verbally or electronically – without ever laying a finger on the victims” (page 6-7). One problem that is very common is depression. When someone brings you down, soon or later, you start to feel bad about yourself. This could lead to many things, like self-harassment and anorexia.
  • Issue 2

Often people believe that bullying is physical, and if you don't see anything, nothing is happening. This isn't even a bit true. “Saying rude and hurtful things habitually, turning friends, classmates and co-workers against someone, or harassing someone online or via text message, are all forms of bullying” (page 7). Anything that makes anyone feels bad is bullying. The bullies can be charged with harassment, physical or electronically, because many schools and states are making this a law.

Skipping school, suicide, drinking, self-harassment, doing drugs, depression and many more are consequences we see coming from bullying from the victims side. Sometimes even the bully's side too. Bullies can also ruin their lives because of this. Every little choice they make will impact their lives in the future, if not immediately. The best thing to do is to be confident. “Showing good posture indicates confidence, and may reduce someone’s likelihood of being a target” (page 6).

The girls overheard a commotion, and headed over to the circle of boys that had formed. There was a boy being 'roasted' by another boy. The victim was clearly not liking the comments being made, and so he ran at the boy and tackled him to the ground. They started wrestling. During this time, a couple of girls had run and called some of the
  • My Situation: Part 2

During this time, a couple of girls had run and called some of the boys' parents. The adults came just in time to see the boy that was victimized breaking the others leg by sitting on it. The verbal abuser became a victim, and the victim became a physical abuser. What could have been done, was a parents was notified earlier. If the boys handled this even earlier, they would never have put those boys together. They already had history.
