    i do not know what i love the most but i know what i love a lot, such as chocolate, music, adventure, and love itself. There is a saying that the greatest gift is love. love is all we need. if that was true why is there so much hate in the world. we feel the hate all the time and all the places we go. how can such traveling lead to hate. traveling brings joy to all who do it and are looking to meet new experiences. experiences enrich life, just as chocolate, music, adventure, and love do.

    The Battle of Fort Sumter
    The Battle of Fort Sumter took place in Charleston, South Carolina in which the Confederates won without any casualties on either side. The Union Major Robert Anderson surrendered to General Beauregard after the Union troops ran out of ammunition. This was the first battle of the Civil War and was an easy victory for the Confederates.
  • 1st Bull Run/Manassas

    1st Bull Run/Manassas
    In this battle, the advantage swung from the Union to the Confederacy. The Union had swept the field of Confederate soldiers, and became tired. Then Confederate reinforcements came and wiped them out. This switched the momentum from the Union to the Confederacy. This occured in Centerville, Virginia, but the win was very difficult, as around five thousand casualties occured in total, out of about 36,000 soldiers. Also, 1,300 men were taken prisoner. The Confederacy won.

    The North's first important victory. Made Ulysses S. Grant famous in the North. Union had 2,800 casualties; Confederate had 15,800. took place in North Western, Tennesse. was won by the Union after Confederate surrendered twice (once at fort Henry, agian at Fort Donelson. Was an Easy victory. Lasted from Febuary 2-Febuary 16 1862.

    U.S.S Monitor vs. C.S.S Virginia
    A naval battle between the Monitor and the Virginia was a battle between a union ship and a confederate ship that took place in Portmouth, Virginia. Both ships were made out of iron and the battle ended in a draw. A year later, both ships were lost. The Virginia was destroyed to avoid being captured and the Monitor filled with water and sunk, even though the monitor was stronger. The Monitor was conducted by Lt. Catesby and the Virginia was conducted by Lt. John Worden.

    Shenandoah Valley Campaign
    The Shenandoah Valley Campaign took place in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. Major General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson led the confederates and Major General George McClellan led the union. An important event was that Jackson's troops left the valley and advanced to Kernstown. This left an impact because the battle of Kernstown began. The Union easily won the Shenandoah Campaign with casualties of 590 for the union and 718 for the confederacy.

    Shiloh
    Shiloh was fought in Pittsburg Landing, TN. It impacted the war as it resulted in the death of over 10K troops on both sides. With the help of General Ulysses S. Grant the Union side was the victor, but it was not an easy win. In TN, Union forces captured two forts causing the Confederate troops to retreat south with their enemy camping only a few miles away. The South attacked, but their placement of troops became their weakness, and the Union won, leading to other Northern victories.

    The Battle of Antietam lead by Generals Robert E. Lee and George B. McClellan was considered the bloodiest single day with 22,720 casualties. The Union won by capturing the bridge on Antietam Creek, northwestern Maryland, then moved in on Lee. This victory prompted Lincoln to create the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all US slaves.
  • Vicksburg, Mississippi

    Vicksburg, Mississippi
    Ulysses Grant was the Union Commander and John Clifford Pemberton was the Confederate Commander. On May 18th, Grant had Pemberton trapped in Vicksburg, Mississippi ready to fight. The union started out with many losses until Grant called in for reinforcements, giving him 70,000 men. By July 3rd, with the confederates running out of resources and about 4,000 casualties, Pemberton asked Grant for surrender terms. The final surrendering happended on July 4th when they agreed to not fight.

    The Battle of Gettysburg took place in Gettyburg, Pennsylvania and was the most famous Civil War battle because of the number of casualities and the battle's location. The Confederate Army endured 28,000 casualties vs. the Union's 23,000 casualties. The Union army was made up of 90,000 men led by General George G. Meade and the Confederate army (75,000) was led by General Robert E. Lee. Initially the Confederates successfully advanced on the Union Army but the Union was victorious in the end.

    Battle of Fort Wagner
    The battle of Fort Wagner took place at Fort Wagner in Charleston, SC. There were 1689 casualties. The Confederacy won this difficult, 7-day, hand-to-hand combat battle. Sergeant William H. Carney and Colonel Robert G. Shaw led the 54th Massachusetts, the first all-black Union troop. Their heroic efforts opened up a door of acceptance for black soldiers fighting in the Union during the rest of the Civil War.
  • Sherman's March

    Sherman's March took place in Georgia and lead by William T. Sherman. It was a campaign that ended the war that lasted for 5 weeks. It was a Union victory that had 650 Confederate causalities and 62 Union causalities. Sherman's March scared a lot of southerners who thought that the confederacy would protect the home front. This was because the Union troops ruined many southern buildngs, took away farm crops, and freed may slaves, this was a difficult victory.

    The Appomattox courthouse took place in Appomattox , Virginia. The battle lasted from april 3rd to april 12th 1865. Some important leaders are Union general , Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate general, Robert E. Lee who surrendered causing the union to win this battle. This battle affected the Civil war because it ended the civil war when confederate general surrendered.
