Jon Krakauer was born on April 12, 1954 in Brookline, Massachusetts as the third of five children. His father introduced him to mountaineering as an 8-year-old. After highschool he went on to study at Hampshire College in Massachusetts. In 1977 he fell in love with former climber Linda Mariam Moore, and they married in 1980. They had lived in Seattle, Washington, but moved to Boulder, Colorado shortly after the realese of "Into Thin Air."

Edema
Edema is an abnormal accumulation of fluid beneath the skin, or in one or more cavities of the body. Edema is swelling caused by fluid in your body's tissues. Edema can also be caused by eating to much salt, sunburn, heart failure, pregnancy, and others. It usually occurs in feet, ankles and legs, but it can invovle your entire body. -

A crevasse is a crack in an ice sheet of glacier. Crevasses often have vertical or near vertical walls, which can melt and create seracs, archs, etc. These walls sometimes expose layers that represent the glacier's stratigraphy. There are three main types of crevasses, transverse crevasses, marginal crevasses, and longitudinal crevasses.

A blizzard or also called a winter hurricane is a severe storm condition characterized by low temperatures, strong winds, and heavy blowing snow. Blizzards are formed when a high pressure system, also known as a ridge, interacts with a low pressure system.

Rob Hall was born on January 14, 1961. Rob was best know for being a head guide on the Mountain Everest expidition. Rob met his future wife, Jan Arnold, during his Everest summit atempt in 1990. In 1996 Rob went on another expidition to reach the summit of Mountain Everest. This time something tradgic happened. He was walking back to camp when a storm came and he couldn't see and walked of a cliff. On May 11, 1996 Rob Hall had died.
