    In Colorado on November 29, 1864 the Sand Creek Massacre took Place. The U.S. and the Indians (Cheyenne and Arapaho) were involved in it. The fought to defend their retreat. This was significant because the Indians lost. It wasn’t just the typical loss. They lost very greatly.

    On the Bozeman Trail on September 21, 1866 the Fetterman Massacre occurred. Again the Cheyenne and the Arapaho were involved along with the U.S. but this time with the help of the Sioux. There was a lot of fighting. This was the bloodiest massacre. The Indians won. This was significant because the Indians tricked the U.S. to win.

    On the Black Hills in 1874 December 5, the 1874 discovery was made. Gold miners were involved in the discovery. The discovery was that the found gold while mining. The winners were the ones who got to keep some. This event was significant because they discovered gold.

    On June 25, 1876 at Little Bighorn River and the Black Hills the Battle of Little Bighorn took place. The Sioux, Lakota, and the Cheyenne Indians were against the U.S. This happened because the Indians didn’t want to move. The Indians won a great victory. This event was significant because the Indians won very greatly.

    In Wyoming territory, at Fort Laramie on December 26, 1876 the treaty of Fort Laramie was made. The people that were involved were the U.S., Lakota Indians, Sioux Indians, and the Arapaho Indians. A treaty was made to “insure the civilization”. This event was significant because it was an important step that everyone had to take.

    In Massachusetts February 8, 1887 the Dawes act was made. The Native Americans the U.S. was involved. It was an act to let the president break up the reservation land. The president was at high ground here. It was significant because this was unfair to the Indians.

    In California and Oklahoma on December 29, 1890 the ghost dance took place. The Native Americans were involved. The Native Americans danced in a ceremonial circle. This was significant because it was like a ritual.
  • Wounded Knee

    In Omaha, Nebraska on December 29, 1890 the Wounded Knee massacre took place. The U.S. and the Sioux and Lakota Indians were involved. They fought because the army had to escort the Indians somewhere. The U.S. army won. This was significant because so many people died and around 98% of the people were Indians.
