  • William Bradford: Leaving Home

Why did William Bradford decide to leave his home and family for a religion? Perhaps William just did not feel that after all of his experiences he should remain a puritan and seeing as how he had joined a new religion who was being forced to flee he felt it was time to say goodbye to his home and family. This is the most probable in my opinion as neither his parents nor his friends approved his religious choices which would not give him a reason to stay behind.
  • Mary Rowlandson: A Content Captive

Why did Mary Rowlandson not despise and hate those who had taken her children and freedom away from her? Even though, the Indians were keeping her captive they themselves did not live a much better life than her. She felt some pity and sadness towards the Indians who had to live a harsh life of constantly having to move lest they be caught by colonial soldiers. They may have taken her children but the two who were still alive were safe and were treated fairly for the most part.
