    Mass Production- Vehicles
    Henry Ford’s invention of the car assembly line in 1913 had developed the automobile industry majorly. His invention could produce cars in a totally faster way and by 1927 had created 15 million cars. This event was important because it had changed the concept of manufacturing world-wide and has helped our technology today for producing vehicles.
  • End of WWI

    End of WWI
    It was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when the Great War finally came to an end. After over four years spent in the battlefields and the surrender of its weaker allies, Germany was forced to seek a truce. The chancellor of Germany ‘Prince Max von Baden’ sent agents to France to negotiate an agreement which later reached the battlefields in the morning of November 11th which finally ended the war.

    Treaty of Versailles
    The peace settlement was signed after many arguments and negotiations later on from the ending of World War One. The treaty was signed at Versailles palace near Paris and was considered the most appropriate location simply because of the huge space. Hundreds of people were involved including three of the most important politicians; David Lloyd, George Georges Clemenceau and Woodrow Wilson. It was an important event because peace was finally made after the First World War.

    The ‘Roaring Twenties’ was a time of major change in America after World War One. A popular culture began, new styles of music were produced and the economy had grown. Many new technologies were available and soaring businesses had higher wages which was allowing people to spend more money on goods. This all ended when the stock market had crashed in October 1929. The Jazz Age was an important event because the new generation had changed America rapidly in those years.

    John Logie Baird was the first man to share a real television to the public. There were many other people involved with the invention of the television as well as multiple achievements afterwards such as the first colour television and video recordings. Baird was also the first to demonstrate cinema television in black and white and colour too. This is an important event because televisions have been improved majorly since 1926 and are now used in everyday life.

    The Great Depression lasting from 1929 to the early 40’s was the outcome of the stock market crash in 1929. It was a severe economic downfall and struck the Southern areas. The U.S. government did attempt to end the Great Depression by taking direct actions to help stimulate the economy. It finally ended when large productions were needed in the Second World War. This was an important event because it affected many people and ruined businesses.

    The Market Crash had investors trading 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange in only one day. Thousands of investors were wiped out caused from the billions of dollars lost. The outcome of Black Tuesday led America as well as the rest of the industrialized world into the Great Depression which was from 1929 to 1939. This was an important event because it was the longest ever economic fall in history of the Western industrialized world up to that time.

    It was the 150th anniversary of the first fleet landing in Australia. For some it was a celebration of arrival at Sydney Cove, however for the indigenous Australians it was a day of mourning where the white settlers had invaded their land and ruined the lives of many indigenous inhabitants that had lived there for hundreds of years before. This was an important event because it marked both celebration and mourning for the arrival of the first fleet and also the loss of habitat for the Aborigines

    No one wanted war until Germany attacked Poland on September 1st 1939. The other European countries felt the need to take action which had a result of World War Two lasting for 6 years. This was an important event because this was the war Adolf Hitler and his Nazi groups were involved which devastated the lives of many innocent people.

    Japanese attack of Pearl Harbour
    The Japanese had launched a surprise air attack at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii where the U.S. had their Naval Base located. The two hours of bombing had killed 2,400 Americans and 21 of the ships had been sunken or damaged and over 188 aircrafts were also demolished. This was an important event because the attack caused America to declare war on Japan which officially brought the United States into the Second World War.

    The mainland of Australia was attacked for the first time by Japanese forces who mounted two air raids on Darwin. The first attack began before 10:00 and the second attack happened an hour later. Both bombings killed at least 243 people and wounded hundreds more too. This was an important event because many people were killed and also led to the bombing of Hiroshima.

    Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima
    The United States dropped the first ever deployed atomic bomb on Hiroshima in Japan. It was the 20, 000 tons of TNT which destroyed 90% of the city and killed tens of thousands of people. It was only three days later when America struck again, this time bombing Nagasaki which led Japan to surrender in the War. This was an important event because it marked the the ending of WWII.

    On the 10th of December was when the United Nations General Assembly took place in Paris. Many representatives from different cultural backgrounds came together in Palais de Chaillot. It was the first time that fundamental human rights were protected worldwide. This was an important event because it was the milestone in history for human rights.

    From the 22nd of November to the 8th of December was when the Olympic Games took place for the first time in Australia. It was also the first time for the Olympics to be hosted by a country outside of Europe or the United States too. The games were located around the Melbourne Cricket Grounds and held 3,314 athletes from 72 different nations. This was an important event especially for Australia because it was the first time of hosting the Olympics.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    During the Cold War an American spy plane found nuclear missiles owned by the Soviet Union on the island of Cuba. President Kennedy ordered a naval barrier of Cuba and the U.S. military forces prepared for launch. The tensions between the two countries increased up until Khrushchev the leader of USSR announced that they would withdraw the missiles from Cuba if the U.S. would remove their missiles too. This was an important event because it was the closest the world had come to a nuclear exchange

    Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream..." speech
    On the 28th of August 1963 during the ‘March for Washington for Jobs and Freedom’, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I have a dream” speech on the steps of Lincoln Memorial. His speech was to fight for the equality and freedom during the American Civil Rights Movement. This was an important event because
    it played a key role for fighting for freedom.
  • Australian Freedom Ride

    Australian Freedom Ride
    A group of university students from Sydney known as ‘Students Action For Aborigines’ planned a bus tour through the western and coastal areas of New South Wales towns. This was to capture the public’s attention and awareness to the poor conditions of Aboriginal people’s health, education, wellbeing and housing. They wanted to reduce the social discriminatory between the Aboriginals and white residents and bring forward that everyone should be treated equally and have the same rights.

    In 1969 was when ARPAnet delivered the first message from one computer to another. One computer was located in a research lab at UCLA and the other at Stanford. By the end of that year only 4 computers were connected to the net however that grew during the early 70’s when universities in London and Hawaii joined the network. This was an important event because nowadays everyone relies on the internet to connect with others and find information which is extremely helpful and a huge advantage.

    Martin Cooper from a communications company 'Motorola' created the first mobile phone. Although the technology of phones had already been made, they only had systems allowing phone calls through the car. After three months of building, Martin Cooper had made the first portable mobile phone which was the size of a brick and went on sale ten years later. This was an important event because nowadays we rely on using mobile phones and is a very popular device.

    Release of Crocodile Dundee
    Crocodile Dundee was released on the 24th of April 1986 in Australia starring Paul Hogan as Crocodile Dundee. The legendary movie is about a crocodile hunter who lives in the Australian outback and owns a safari business. After surviving a crocodile attack, Mick Dundee visits New York with an American journalist and finds himself falling in love with her. The release of Crocodile Dundee was important because it was one of the most successful movies for the year and was a huge icon for Australia.

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was a division between West Berlin and East Germany from 1961 to 1989 and was also the symbolic boundary separating democracy and communism during the Cold War. On the 9th of November, head of the East Germany Communist group announced that all citizens can cross the border whenever they liked. This was an important event because Germany finally became one again as many people crossed the border freely

    United Nations Conventions On The Rights Of The Child
    The Convention was adopted in the United Nations by the General Assembly Resolution and came into force on the 2nd of September 1990. This was to put forward all of the fundamental rights of a child whether civil, political, economic, social or cultural. This was an important event because the agreements set are to help protect children and gives them the rights under the age of 18.
