Due to this a meeting was held between both sides in Ferdinand Foch’s railway carriage headquarters in Compiegne. The Armistice was signed and put in force 5 hours later. On January 1938 is the 150 anniversary of the landing of the first fleet. Two parades, one of celebration where the landing was reincited and a second of mourning was a silent parade. For the indigenous Australians it was a day of mourning, and the white Australians a day of happiness. This event was important as it showed the two stories of the arrival of the first fleet.

As the stocks grow more and more popular in the mid 1920s more and more people started the see the stock market and a quick and easy way to make money. Then in 1929 the stock market began to drop. Within a day of the market crash 12.9 million shares were sold, on top of this, the crash caused global suicides and then led to the great depression.

The great depression was a time of hardship and unemployment in Australia. It was caused by the market crash and as a result more than 30% of Australians became unemployed. This event was very important because it was a time when people were poor and starving and the world’s economy needed fixing.

Adolf Hitler invaded Poland which marked the start of WW2. The war then lasted several years and caused the death of millions. The war ended at the death of Adolf Hitler in 1945. The event was important as it started the second Great War in Europe, and continued through Asia and the Pacific.

On this date the 188 air crafts and 21 ships were destroyed by the Japanese in a surprise attack. The attack enraged the US to declare war on Japan and enter WW2. The attack was caused as Japan wanted to expand its conquest of Asia and the US were preventing this with their embargo on Japan. On February 19th the Australian mainland came under attack from Japanese bombers which saw the destruction of Darwin’s air base and the death of approximately 247 people. In World War 2 a b-29 bomber dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima killing 80,000 people instantly and a further 40,000 died or radiation exposure. This was an important event as it was the first ever use of an atomic bombed and later caused the surrender of Japan in World War 2.

Kennedy decided to not announce that he had discovered this and decided unanimously to create a blockade around Cuba to prevent more military ships from arriving in Cuba.
