    Riots Break Out
    For 42 years Libya has been ruled by a cunning, eccentric dictator known as Qaddafi. After hearing of the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, the Libyan people were inspired to revolt. The Libyan residents planned for a "day of rage" on Febuary 17, but the arrest of prominent lawyer Fathi Terbil, who represented families of 1,200 prisoners who had been killed by security forces, caused riots to break out early in, on February 15, 2011, in Benghazi.

    After 7 days of punishing airstrikes on the city of Ajdabiya, Gadhafi's men were forced to retreat from the city. They left several destroyed tanks and rocket systems in the city. The next day, several rebel troops came in gun trucks and reclaimed the destroyed city and had a celebration.

    LinkNATO, allied airstrikes on the city of Tripoli were carried out to weaken Gadhafi's forces. During one of the strikes, an order was carried out to try and assassinate Gadhafi. NATO bombers dropped several missles on Gadhafi's house in order to kill him. Unfortunately the bombs only managed to kill his son and 3 grandchildren, while Gadhafi and his wife managed to survive.

Just when people began to wonder why Gadhafi had disappeared, he came onto a balcony and broadcasted a message to all his supporters in Libya that he would never surrender. He insisted how he would rather die then surrender to the rebels and their allied airstrikes.

    Rebels Attack the City of Tripoli in Coordination with NATO Forces
    LinkVideoRebels, with the continued help from NATO airstrikes and forces, attacked the home town and fortress of Gadhafi, taking out many barracks of the elite Khamis brigade, led by Gadhafi's son. The rebels mangaed to push through all of the defenses Tripoli had to offer for Gadhafi and managed to storm the city.

    NTC Compund Overrun Gadhaif's Compund in Tripoli
    LinkAfter overrunning the city of Tripoli, the rebels advanced to the heart of the city where Gadhafi's compound was located. The rebels stormed the compound in search of Gadhafi and his son who had survived the ealier assault. They took out many of his guards and troops and managed to completely overrun the compund.

    Gafhaif is Captured and Dies in Custody.
    VideoAfter narrowly escaping capture at the hands of the rebels, Gadhafi was finally captured in his home town of Sirte. Rebel and NATO forces attacked strongest compund Gadhafi had in Sirte. During the assault, rebels caught Gadhafi and his men trying to flee the city and captured him. When trying to evacute Gadhafi to take him to jail, a small skirmish broke out between his men and the rebels, where he was supposedly shot. Some people claim he may have already been shot before he was evacuated.

    LinkAfter Gadhafi was killed in his hometown of Sirte, the transitional leaders of Libya's government declared that Libya had finally been liberated from loyalist rule. Leaders encouraged the people of Libya to hold there head high because they were now a "free Libyan".

    LinkSoon aftering Libya was declared liberated, elections were held for a new prime minister. Soon after election Abdel-Rahim el-Keeb was electecd the new prime minister of Libya. He declared that he will make changes to benefit Libya. Soon after election, NATO forces ended their mission in Libya.

    Seif al-Islam Gadhafi is Captured
    LinkSeif al-Islam Gadhafi, Gadhafi's son who had evaded capture unlike his father, was finally found and taken into custody. He was found in the city of Obari and was taken prisoner by the remainder of the rebel forces. After his capture Libyans celebrated for the only succesor of Gadhafi was captured and is now being put on trial for his actions.
