The PS4 was a big upgrade from the PS3 and right before Christmas these consoles were selling out fast. They released just 2 weeks before Christmas and just in time for Black Friday that these consoles were sold out everywhere.

This created extra screen space on the iPhone giving it a really sleek look. The Face ID unlock was the new way to unlock phones and ever since the X came out, that's how most phones are unlocked. These were in high demand at the time and were very hard to find making their price extremely high for a few years after their release date.
