    US Invasion of Panama

    In December of 1989, President George H.W. Bush called for an invasion of Panama and codenamed it "operation just cause". He did this because he wanted to overthrow Manuel Noriega: a military dictator. There were four main reasons why Bush wanted to go through with this invasion: protect thousands of U.S citizens, defend democracy and human rights, combat drug trafficking and to protect treaties that President Jimmy Carter had signed. This had involved 27,000 US troops, and 300 aircraft.

    Rodney King Beating / L.A. Riots

    Rodney King was on parole for robbery and was caught driving under the influence. The police chased him down and ordered him out of the car. Once he did, they beat him resulting in skull fractures, broken bones and teeth, and permanent brain damage. These police men were never charged as guilty which caused a lot of commotion ion California. It brought up a whole new topic to be discussed throughout the world. Peoples fury led to five days of riots, fires, looting and destroyed businesses.

    Hurricane Andrew

    From August 16, 1992 – August 28, 1992, hurricane Andrew hit the Bahamas, Florida and Louisiana. It was a category 5 hurricane that was detrimental too many lives. Over 250,000 people were left homeless and almost 100 thousands businesses were destroyed. The hurricane overall caused $26.5 billion dollars of damage to repair. Majority of the damage was due to the high winds and tornados that came from all the wind. This hurricane still remains one of the most expensive and damaging storms.

    The whitewater investigation was a political controversy in the 1990s. The Clintons and the McDougal's tried to buy a great amount of land and sell it for vacation homes. This eventually failed and costed them over $40,000. David Hale claims in 1993 that Clinton had forced him into giving an illegal $300,000 loan to McDougal. After many investigations, the controversy led to only convictions against the McDougals because the Clintons weren't found guilty as having involvement with the deal.

    Passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement

    The purpose of the passage of North American Free Trade Agreement was to promote free trade between the US, Canada, and Mexico. The goal was to lower trading costs, grow business investment, and help North America get more involved in the world marketplace. In 1992, it was signed by Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. This agreement was signed by all 3 presidents and put into effect on January 1 of 1994. Prime Minister Brian Mulroney President Carlos Salinas, and George H.W. Bush signed the agreement.
  • O.J. Simpson Trial

    O.J. Simpson Trial

    O.J Simpson was a big football player that was accused of his prior wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. Instead of talking to the police or the press he tried to escape by hiding behind his friends car. This was broadcasted on live televsion. The slow police chase ended at his own home where he was then arrested until trials began. The trail went on for over 8 months. In October, Simpson was found not guilty. The glove was Glen Rogers that he had thrown into O.Js car.
  • Olympic Park Bombing

    Olympic Park Bombing

    In July of 1996, a bombing took place in Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta Georgia. The police were warned that a bomb would go off and they had 30 minutes. There was another bombing in Alabama after and they correlated. Eric Rudolph had to do with both bombings and 2 others that he confessed too. There were 2 deaths but hundreds injured. He claims the reasoning for it was because he wanted to embarrass the US for legalizing abortions. After the bombing, he tried to escape but failed.
  • Murder of Jon Benet Ramsey

    Murder of Jon Benet Ramsey

    She was six years old when she was murdered in her own house. She was found tied up and strangled, with signs of sexual assault. There were no signs of any kind of break in or intruder so it was easy to place suspicions on her own parents. They also did not cooperate with the investigation, leading to more questions. The trials continued on for 2 years. One of her prior teachers confessed but was soon released after no matching DNA was found. In 2019, Gary Olivia was arrested for the murder.
  • NATO bombing in Yugoslavia

    NATO bombing in Yugoslavia

    In March of 1999, NATO began their strikes against Yugoslavia. This act started because Yugoslavia was killing or "ethnic cleansing" the Albanians, which made them move into next door countries and this was essentially destabilizing the country. The US also wanted President Milosevic to end his campaign against the Kosovo Liberation Army. After, NATO launched its campaign without telling the UN and justified it as a way to stop violation of human rights also known as a humanitarian intervention.
  • Columbine Massacre

    Columbine Massacre

    In April of 1999, at Columbine High School in Colorado, two students: Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students and 1 teacher and injured 23 more. After the massacre, they committed suicide. They put two duffel bags each containing bombs in the school. Their original goal was to bomb the whole school. Prior to the shooting, the two seniors, chose their victims. After many investigations, their victim picking was announced completely random. There were theories but none were ever proved.
