  • Human Genome Project Begins

    The project begins with the goal to determine the sequence of genes that make up DNA.
  • Berlin Wall Destroyed

    The Berlin Wall, which was up for almost 30 years, was taken down. This symbolized the end of communism and was caused by the end of the USSR.
  • First Website Created on Internet

    http://info.cern.ch/, the world's first website, is published.
  • Boris Yeltzin Elected

    Boris Yelltzen became the first elected president of Russia in 1991 after the USSR dissolves. He was in power from 1991 to 1999.
  • Bosnian War Erupts

    The war occured after the breakup of Yugoslavia. This war led to the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovania.
  • L.A Riots

    Rodney King was beaten up on video by multiple police officers in 1992. During the trial the police officers were found not guilty. The Riots started due to outrage that the police officers were not fouind guilty. Rodney King later asked "Why can't we all just get along?"
  • The 1992 Presidential Election

    Bill Clinton was elected president after beating George Bush and Ross Perot. This election was the first time 18.9% of America voted for a third party. The "spoiler" effect caused by Perot caused less votes to go to Bush causing Clinton to win.
  • Waco Crisis Begins

    The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms raided a compound owned by David Koresh and his followers. The compound was raided after a warrant was executed to remove firearms and grenades from the compound.
  • Intervention In Somalia (Battle of Mogadishu)

    Part of the Operation Gothic Serpent mission in Somalia. Rescue mission that was made into the movie "Black Hawk Down".
  • European Union Begins

    A coalition of European nations is formed when the Maastricht treaty was signed.
  • Bill Clinton Attempts Health Care Reform

    While trying to create a health care reform, Bill Clinton's plan was shot down. To help with this bill he created the Task Force on National Health Care Reform.
  • NAFTA Comes Into Force

    NAFTA, a trilateral trade bloc between the US, Canada and Mexico, was signed.
  • Brady Bill Goes Into Effect

    The Brady Bill, which makes it mandatory to check the background of anyone attempted to purchase firearms, comes into effect.
  • Rwanda Genocide

    The RPF (Rwanda Patriotic Force) Begins its invasion on Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. It results in the genocide of thousands of the countries citizens.
  • South African Apartheid Ended

  • OJ Trial Reaches Verdict

    OJ Simpson is tried in the court of law and found to be not guilty. He is not convicted due to the quote "if the glove does not fit, you must acquit".
  • Contract With America Proposed

    This contract, created with the help of Newt Gingrich, is a packet of many bills proposed to Congress in 1994.
  • English Channel Tunnel Opens

    A Tunnel connected England and France opens, allowing quick transportation between the two countries.
  • Oklahoma City Bombing

    The most destructive domestic terror attack before 9/11. 168 people died due to a truck bomb attack, created and detonated by and American citizen, on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklohoma City.
  • Windows 95 Released

    The first Microsoft operating system, Windows 95, is released.
  • Dayton Peace Accords

    Peace treaty between Croatia, Bbosnia, Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro was signed; the on going mini wars in Yugoslavia had officially ended.
  • Unabomber Ted Kaczynski Guilty

    The Unabomber was found guilty in court.
  • Olympic Park Bombing

    Anti-Abortion activist sets off a bomb at the Centennial Olympic Park at the Olympic Games, killing 1.
  • Kyoto Protocol Adopted

    A Protocol aimed to confront global warming. As of September 2011, 191 states have ratified the protocol. It wants to stabilize and reduce the amount of Greenhouse Gases in the environment.
  • Kosovo War Begins

    The KLA began attacked Yugoslav Buildings in February of 1996.
    Nato bombed throughout Yugoslavia in hopes to end the conflict, but it was very controversial.
  • Bill Clinton Impeached

    Due to a sexual harrasment scandal, Bill Clinton was impeached. However, he was not removed from office. The Senate found him not guilty.
  • Columbine School Shooting

    Eric Harris and Dylan Kleboid, 2 teens from Columbine High School, brought guns to school and killed many students. The incident caused many debates on the use of anti-depressants, violent video games, and gun control laws.
  • Euro Enters Circulation

    The Euro comes into circulation as the official currency of the Eurozone, consisting of 17 of 27 members of the EU. It is currently the second largest traded currency other than the US Dollar. It was created to unite Europe into one country as opposed to multiple countries with multiple currencies.
