  • US invasion of Panama

    US invasion of Panama
    Code named Operation Just Cause the US invaded Panama in December 1989. 10 years after the approval for the turnover of the Panama Canal in 2000 to Panama authorities. The US justified the conflict through defending human rights and democracy. The dictator and Panama government was disposed of.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act

    Americans with Disabilities Act
    Senator Tom Harkin authored and sponersed the bill. It is a wide ranging civil rights law. It prevents discrimination based on disability. It stated that the determination of disability would be made on a case by case basis.
  • Whitewater investigation

    Whitewater investigation
    During the 1992 Presidential elections the NY time reported that the Clintons invested and lost money in the Whitewater development project. The reports clamed that the Clintons illegally offered loans. Further investigation by the US gov resulted in no substatial evidence against the Clintons being uncovered. Thus no penalty was taken aganist them.
  • Rodney King/Los Angeles riots

    Rodney King/Los Angeles riots
    King was an African American construction worker who was beaten by police after a high speed car chase. The incident was video taped and out raged the public. The 1992 Los Angeles riots were arsons and public unrest over a period of 6 days. They were the largest since the 60's.
  • Hurricane Andrew

    Hurricane Andrew
    In 1992 Hurricane Andrews was the costliest in United States History. The hurricane orginated from a tropical wave over the Atlantic Ocean. It strengthened to a Catagory 5 hurricane before making landfall in Florida. Over 800 homes and $250 million in damages were caused.
  • Battle of Mogadishu

    Battle of Mogadishu
    The Battle of Mogadishu was part of the US involvement in Somolia. Shortly after fighting began Somoli troops shot down 2 Blackhawk Helicoptors. There was an estimate 3000 Somoli casulaties, in the battle with 18 US deaths from the Heli rescue opperation. The blackhawks were part of operation gothic serpent.
  • North American Free Trade Agreement

    North American Free Trade Agreement
    US President George Bush, Canadian Primie Minister Brian Mulroney, and Mexican President Carlos Salinas all signed the agreement. The proposed US-Canadian agreement was very controlversial. Bill Clinton added an eviormental provision. The treaty was passed after much debate in congress.
  • O.J. Simpson murder case

    O.J. Simpson murder case
    The former football player was tried for the murder of his ex-wife and a waiter. Simpson was aquitted after an 8 month trial. The jurors were faced with the defense using, brand new at the time, DNA evidence. The famillies later won a civil suit for damages and were awarded money.
  • Million Man March

    Million Man March
    A large gathering of African Americans in Washington DC. Called together by Louis Farrakhan working with the nation of Islam many prominet speakers spoke to those who attended. The march promoted the pish for rights for African American men. The crowd was estimated to have reached over 800k supporters.
  • Olympic Park bombing

    Olympic Park bombing
    The Centennial Olympic Park Bombing was a terriost bomb attack in Atlanta, Georgia. It was the first of 4 bombings by Eric Rudolf. Eric wanted to force the cancelation of the Olympic Games. A pipe bomb was used in "town square" killing 2 people injuring many more.
  • Murder of James Byrd Jr.

    Murder of James Byrd Jr.
    James Byrd was an African American who was murdered in Jasper, Texas. His lynching by dragging paved the way for many hate crime laws in Texas. The three white supremiciasts are either serving life or have been executed. Barrack Obama signed into effect the Hate Crimes Prevention Act in 2009.
  • Murder of Matthew Shepard

    Murder of Matthew Shepard
    A student at the University of Wyoming who beaten, tortured and left to die. Two were arrested shortly after the incident. During the trial evidence pointed to them targeting Matthew for being gay. This brought attention to hate crimes through out the country.
  • NATO bombing in Yugoslavia

    NATO bombing in Yugoslavia
    A militarty NATO operation aganist Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. It was not authorized by the UN, and was first time without such approval. NATO launched 2,300 missles killing over 2,000 citizens. At least 40,000 homes were completely destroyed.
  • Columbine Shooting

    Columbine Shooting
    It was a school shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. Two students murdered 12 students and 1 teacher. The senior students then committed suicide. It sparked debate over gun control and the availbility of guns in US.
  • Y2K scare

    Y2K scare
    A problem for digital computers and data storage, which a rose from abreviating 4 digit years to 2 digits. When they are written as x97 or x98 the computer interupts x00 as 1900. Inaddition many did not know that 2000 was a leap year. The Y2k caused a small panic among people who did not know what was going to happe.
