  • Passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act

    The Americans with Disabilities Act ADA was put into law by congress on July 26, 1990. ADA is enforced by the US equal employment Oppertunity Commission, and what the act does is prohibits any discrimination against people who are qualified for a job but have a disability. This act includes all aspect of employment such as; hiring, promotion, dscharge, training, and benefits. Employer are also require to provide resonable ecomindation. President George W. Bush signed this act.
  • Conformation of Clarence Thomas

    On October 23, 1991, Clarence Thomas was nominated into office, for the position of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. After William Brennan stepped down from the supreme court in July 1990, Thomas was one of five, of the top choices to fill in the position. Each person in the top five had to go through a comformation hearing. Towards the end of Thomas's hearing, Anita Hill testified that Thomas had sexually assualted her
  • Magic Johnson's HIV Announcement

    On November 7, 1991 basketball star Earvin "Magic" Johnson shocked the world with by announcing that he was HIV positive and would be retiring from the NBA. Johnson spent 13 seasons with the Lakers, won 5 NBA championships, 3 time MVP, and 12 time NBA all star team memeber. Johnson served as an example of how a variety of drug treatment can change AIDS from a death sentence to a manageable condition.
  • US SOldiers in Somalia

    No operation has been as costly or lost as many lives than what took place in Somalia, August 1992. When Somalia gained it independence in 1960 it was ruled by the dictatorship Barre. Barre's dictatorship favored memebers of his own clan, so those of the less favorable clans began to chafe under the government. In December the US began Operation Restore Hope. President Bush authorized the dispatch of US soldier into Somalia to help with Famine relief. Warlord challenged the US's efforts.
  • Passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement

    NAFTA exsisted between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It started on Janurary 1, 1994, when NAFTA was established the three countries became the largest free trade market in the world. NAFTA was made so that tariff barriers to agriculture, manufacturing, and service; would be eliminated. President Clinton signed this bill into law on Dec 8, 1993 and went into act the next year.
  • O.J. simpson Trial

    On June 12, 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Gold man were stabbed to death. Their bodies were founde dead outside Nicole's home on June 13th. O.J. was not found gulity after the eight month trial that ended October 3, 1995. The reason why OJ wasn't found gulity was becaus eof the mistake by the the forensics team with contaminated evidece.
  • Million Man March

    The Million Man March was a one of the largest gaterings in US history, it was a political demonstartion in the nation's capital of Washington DC. On October 16, 1995. The purpose of the march was to promote Black unity and family values. There were nearly 1.1 million people marching at the event that was organized by the nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Many famous Black activist showed up to support the event like Rosa Park and Jesse Jackson.
  • Unabomber Attacks and Arrest

    On April 13, 1996, Theodore Kacynski was arrested outside of Lincoln, Montana in his small cabin. As they arrested Ted Kacynski, it ended an 18 year long manhunt for the elusive figure by the name of Unabomber. On Janurary 22, 1998, Kacynski pleaded gulity for the crimes that he had commited. The Unabomber would send off bombs in the mail to professors and students at various universities. He killed 3 people and injuried 23.
  • NATO bombing in Yugoslavia

    On March 24, 1999 Nato started an air attack against Yugoslavia, with the bombing of serbian military position in the province of Kosovo. The purpose of the rad was a response to the genocide that was led by Serbian Slobodan Milosevic. The Serbian's wanted make an enthic cleanse, in other words rid the people of the Muslim culture. For a 78 day period no NATO lives were lost with the exception of two US pilots.
  • columbine shooting

    On April 20, 1999; teenagers Eric Harris 18 years old and Dylan Kiebold 17 years old. Went into Columbine High School, in Littleton Colorado, and had a shooting spree.The two teenagers killed 12 people, and injuried over 20 people, and after doing so they turned their guns on themselves and commited suicide. Before the shooting spree the teens had tried o bomb the school but once they had seen the bombs fail they decided to go on the shooting spree.
