The US Invasion of Panama was an effort taken by the US to take out the dictator of Panama. Panama's dictator at the time was Manuel Noriega. Manuel Noriega was disliked by the US because he was indicted in the US trafficking drugs and racketeering. George HW Bush was president at the time of this occurrence, and he was the one who ordered the invasion. The United States won this invasion, and a new man, Guillermo Endara, was put into office in Panama. -
Rodney King had been in a high-speed race with LA police when he eventually gave up. When they arrested him the three police officers brutally beat King. This brutality resulted in riots and the rise of racial inequality. This showed people how some police can use their force and power in not the right ways always. The Rodney King Beating and L.A. Riots started a national dispute about the unfair disparity both economically and racially. -
Hurricane Andrew was a very destructive and unexpected hurricane. It hit Louisiana, Florida, and the Bahamas. Not only was it a physical disaster, but it was also an economical disaster. Due to the flooding, damage to houses and buildings, and loss of jobs it put many people in economic trouble. Hurricane Andrew costed 26.5 billion dollars in reparations, it was known as the most expensive natural disaster. -
Lyle and Erik Menendez are charged for the murder of their parents. They shot their parents in their Beverly Hills home. During the trial, the years of sexual abuse that went on were discussed, and how they shot their parents in self-defense. The first two juries deadlocked and a mistrial was called. In the retrial in 1995, the judge was less restrictive towards the sexual abuse. March 1996 both brothers were convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. -
The Passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement was an act made to eliminate tariffs and put restrictions on trade throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This agreement was signed in 1992, to create free trade between these countries. The Passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement resulted in higher production and people getting paid more. This act strengthened American employers to force labor workers to accept lower wages and benefits. -
OJ Simpson was accused and tried on two accounts of murder. He was accused of the death of both his wife and his wife's friend. The wife and friend were found in Brentwood neighborhood in LA, California stabbed to death. OJ was tried in many ways to be found guilty, but they could not prove it. They found evidence that proved him more innocent when they found a bloody glove outside his house. The glove did not fit OJ's hand though, which made him seem more innocent. OJ was found innocent. -
The Olympic Park Bombing was a terrorist attack committed by Eric Rudolph. It was a pipe bombing attack on the Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia. This bombing killed 1 and injured 111 others. The security guard who found the bomb and made people evacuate, Richard Jewell, was thought by many to be guilty. He was investigated to be the bomber but was found innocent. -
Jon Benet Ramsey was a 5-year-old pageant girl, who was murdered on Christmas Day in Colorado in 1996. She was found in her basement by the police. She went missing at 5:30 am, and the parents found a ransom letter for 118,000 dollars. They never found out who murdered Jon Benet, but there are many suspicions especially upon the family members. This murder became a nationally known and investigated case. -
The NATO bombing in Yugoslavia was a US military operation against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The reason for this military operation was to force President Milosevic to accept the terms of an agreement that would end his military campaign against the Kosovo Liberation Army. The bombing kept going until the Yugoslavia armed forces. There were lots of Kosovo civilian deaths due to the bombing. -
The Columbine Massacre was a school shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. There were 13 people killed in this massacre. This horrific act was committed by two teenage gunmen. The two tried to bomb the cafeteria, but the bomb did not go off. This shooting resulted in a national debate about gun control in America and brought attention to school safety.
