Gardner Heist: The Biggest Art Theft in History
Two art thieves entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston at 1:24AM. They stole 13 pieces of rare artwork valued at about $500 million. The thieves were disguised as policemen and were able to talk their way into the museum and detain the guards.The most notable among the missing were 3 Rembrandts, one Vermeer, and five Degas. To this day, the case is still unsolved. -
Copper Age Man Found Frozen in Glacier
Two German tourists were hiking in the Otzal Alps when they discovered Europe's oldest mummy sticking out of the ice. The iceman was named Otzi and had been naturally mummified by the ice. He had been in the ice for approximately 5,300 years. Research on the body and the artifacts reveal much about life of Copper Age Europeans. -
Cult Compound in Waco, Texas Raided
After the ATF obtained a warrant to search for illegal firearms, they made an attempt to storm the Mount Carmel Center. A gunfight began and lasted for nearly 2 hours. 4 ATF agents were dead as were 5 Branch Davidians, Negotiating went on with a few people being released. However, 84 stayed in the compound. 2 months later, the compound caught fire, killing 75 of the people still inside, either from gunshot or the fire. -

Members of the Aum Sinrikyo cult orchestrated a sarin gas attack on subway trains in Japan's capital. The gas killed a dozen people and injured thousands more. To this day, it is considered the worst terrorist attack in Japan. -
Oklahoma City Bombing
At 9:02AM, a 5,000-pound bomb exploded inside a Ryder Truck. The truck was just outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The explosion killed 168 people, 19 of which were children. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were responsible. This became the worst terrorist attack on US soil until 9/11. -

The Israeli Prime Minister was shot and killed by a Jewish radical named Yigal Amir. The shooting happened at the end of a peace rally in Tel Aviv. -

Princess Diana Dies in Car Crash
Diana had been riding in the Mercedes-Benz with her boyfriend, bodyguard, and chauffer when the car crashed into a pillar under the Pont de l'Alma bridge. They had been fleeing from paparazzi. Diana's boyfriend and chauffer were pronounced dead at the scene. Diana had suffered major injuries to her head and chest. She died on the operating table, while her bodyguard survived with severe injuries. -

The cost to make the movie was $200 million and grossed over $3.7 billion worldwide. The movie was directed by James Cameron and starred Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose Dewitt Bukater. The film also featured the hit song "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. "Titanic" won a total of 11 Oscars along with 116 other awards, plus 63 nominations. -
Killing Spree at Columbine High School
In Littleton, Colorado, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris started an assault during the middle of the school day. Armed with guns, knives, and bombs, the boys walked through halls with the purpose to kill as many of their peers as they could. In the end, twelve students, one teacher, and the two boys were dead while twenty-one more were injured.
