  • Big Brother

    Big Brother
Big Brother is the dictator or absolute ruler or Oceania, and his name represents two things. First, “Big” means that he has complete control over all of the population and is above or more important than everybody else, and “Brother” is an attempt to make Big Brother seem friendly and family-like, so people will be drawn to him, like him and look up to him like a small boy looks up to his older brother.
  • Newspeak

    Newspeak
Newspeak is the official language or Oceania, and it was created to meet the needs of ingsoc. It is a language that is a simplified version of the original english, and the purpose that is was created for is to manipulate the population, because the new language leaves no words that go against the Party. In other words, the language only has positive words that allow the population to always agree with the Party and not even know how to express any form of dislike towards it.
  • Party Mottos

    Party Mottos
The motto contains contradicting words, because war is the antonym of peace and freedom is the antonym of slavery. The words are opposite, but in the motto they are set to mean the same thing, in an attempt that could be meant to confuse the population and gain their support (as doublethink would not allow them to believe that these words are contradictory) . In addition, Ignorance does not equal strength, but rather weakness, because the more ignorant you are, the easier you are to control.

  • Two Minutes Hate

    Two Minutes Hate
Two minutes hate shows Goldstein and what happens to people who go against Big Brother. Everyone joins together to hate on enemies, for which it is important to avoid commiting facecrime. That morning, O'Brien and the dark haired girl join them for two minute hate, which is why Winston starts the diary that day.
  • Emmanuel Goldstein

    Emmanuel Goldstein
Goldstein is a symbolic enemy of the party and during the 2 minutes hate they use his image to channel and project all the feelings of hatred, frustration, and other emotions of angriness and fury. Goldstein is a representation of Leon Trotsky ,the biggest enemy of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in the world war ;who led the unsuccessful revolt and later murdered by Stalin’s men (army). In the story It's a purpose that he's Jewish ,because dictators Stalin and Hitler hated and fear the jewish.
  • Facecrime vs Thought Crime

    Facecrime vs Thought Crime
Facecrime is showing any type of emotion through your facial expressions, or any emotion that goes against Big Brother and the Party. it’s easy to commit, because you usually don’t think about what facial expression you show to others and you could often show the wrong thing unconsciously. Thoughtcrime is thinking anything that goes against Big Brother and it is even harder to control, although doublethink and newspeak makes it easier. Anyone who commits these crimes is vanished.
  • the Spies

    the Spies
Children are trained to live for the party and Big Brother, and denounce even the slightest hint of thoughtcrime. They are taught what the party needs them to know and are often considered heroes for denouncing their parents
  • Winstons Family

Winston dreams of his mother, father and sister. He barely remembers them, but feels guilty for treating them badly. It can be observed that all emotional bonds are rejected by society as Big Brother controls this as well.
  • The Record Department

    The Record Department
The party controls history, because it rewites the past (this is Winston's job). The quote that Orwell established at this point in the story "if you control the past, you control the present."demonstrates that people can be controlled through cultural conditioning. and they will put all their faith in a government that they believe tells them the truth, but only does that to benefit itself and not society , and to make it more believable ,The Ministry of Truth is created.
  • Doublethink

    Doublethink
Doublethink allows party members to know both the original truth and lies, but believe the lies as the truth, which is necessary to avoid thoughtcrime. In this same way old memories are erased and replaced with the new truth even though people often know that the new truth is a lie, they do not acknowledge it.
