  • Outside the Junk Shop

After leaving the junk shop, Winston notices that the dark-haired girl is walking down the street he is in. He believes this to be too much of a coincidense as there would be no reason for a party member to walk down this street this late at night. He then thinks that she is a member of the thought police and immediately freezes as he now believes he is a dead man walking.
  • The note

While at work, Winston sees the dark-haired girl trip and fall in the hallway. Out of instincts he goes over to help her up despite thinking she was after him. Winston finally learned the girl's name, Julia.
