Rosa Parks was one of the first women to ever protest for civil change, this gave other women the courage to step forward.
This happened in Montogomery on Cleveland avenue. Rosa parks did this in an effort to fight back against discrimination -
FDA birth pill
The FDA approved the first commercially produced birth control pill. This happened because women wanted the option to choose when and if they have children, Margaret Sanger commissioned the pill, and Katherine McCormick funded it. The FDA is located in Montgomery and Prince George Counties in Maryland. -
Equal Pay Act
President John F Kennedy signed the equal pay act in 1963. This act prohibited sex-based wage discrimination. This act was signed due to the riots and push for equal pay mainly by women. This was signed at the White House in Washington D.C. -
Civil Rights Act
Lyndon B Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law. This banned employment discrimination for many minorities, but it really benefited women at this time. This law was signed so that minorities could have equal opportunities. -
National Organization For Women
Betty Freidan, an author, founded the National Organization for Women (NOW). This was founded to promote feminist ideals, lead social change, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls. This was founded in Washington DC.
