  • President Roosevelt dies

    Roosevelt suffered many things from WWI, he had arthritis and had to walk with a cane. He also suffered from heart issues, which he had kept a secret. The ultimate cause of his death was a heart attack.
  • First Atomic Bomb is dropped

    The first bomb was dropped in a Japanese city called, Hiroshima. An estimated 80,000 people died from the bomb, then later tens of thousands would die from the radiation that they were exposed to.
  • The US enters the United Nations

    America joined the United Nations so that the organization would succeed at keeping the peace. However, joining the organization took longer than expected because of isolationists within congress.
  • The National Security Act

    This act established the CIA as an independent agency within the executive branch. The Act gave the CIA more responsibilities and gave them the duties of national security.
  • The Marshall Plan

    President Harry Truman signed the Marshall plan. The plan was designed to rehabilitate the economies of 17 western and southern European countries to create stable conditions that people could survive in after WWII.
  • The development of the Hydrogen Bomb

    President Harry Truman ordered the development of the hydrogen bomb. He ordered the development because of the soviet's first atomic bomb in 1949.
  • US Nuclear Submarine, The Nautilus

    The Nautilus was the very first nuclear-powered submarine. The keel was laid on the 14 then 18 months later the sub was launched.
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower becomes president.

    Eisenhower became the 34th president in 1953.
