    The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. The campaign to pass this amendment was the biggest in American history because its supporters fought for decades. This marked a significant milestone for women's rights.

    Indian Citizenship Act Passed

    The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 gave citizenship to all Native Americans born within the United States. This applied to about 125,000 of the 300,000 indigenous people in the United States. It did not give indigenous people the right to vote but the positive effects were they were allowed to easily assimilate and become a part of the American society according to American traditions, which had the negative effect of diluting and removing their own traditions.

    Sears had been selling through catalogs since 1893 and would
    build one of the largest department chain stores in the country. This event is important because it represents the “New Era”, a time when America experienced economic growth and prosperity. The incomes of working people increased along with those of middle class and wealthier Americans. Consumption beyond necessities became part of everyday life for all. The department store helped make this possible.

    Congress Creates Army's Women's Auxiliary Corps (WACs)

    This is important because women were playing a large role in the war for the first time in the US. After WACS, the US Congress created other branches of the armed forces for women to join the war effort including: the Navy's WAVES, the Coast Guard's SPARs, and the Women Air Force Service Pilots. 350,000 American women served their country in WWII. Although they did not serve in combat roles, they had other important jobs such as nurses and even pilots.

    Amelia Earhart as the first female aviator to fly alone across
    the Atlantic Ocean is important because it highlights US leadership in

    at this time, women made less progress in the workforce than
    in prior decades, but a few from elite families were able to set
    the precedence of female pilots.

Their crimes were seen as heroic because they stole from the rich and gave to the desperate poor; they robbed banks and sent any money they had to their families.

    The surprise attack on the US base in Pearl Harbor is important because it brought the US into World War II. It unified American public opinion in favor of entering the war. Although WWII begin in September, 1939 the US did not declare war on Japan until December 8, 1941, the day after the Pearl Harbor attack. Italy and Germany then declared war on the United States.

    On D-Day, 150,000 Allied troops successfully stormed the beaches of Normandy in France. Paris was soon to be berated as the troops made their way through the country. This was the beginning of the end of WW2 and the defeat of the Axis powers.
