The Missouri compromise made an equal amount of slave and free states.This caused problems because North wanted to abolish slavery,and south wanted more slavery.This also involved the Georgia Platform which was a statement made by a Georgia Convention in Milledgeville, Georgia on December 10, 1850. -

Abraham Lincoln got elected in 1860 being the 16th president.This election led to succession by the south because Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery and south wanted to keep slaves.This was a major event which led to war.He was president until the end of the war when he was assassinated after the civil war by John Wilkes Booth because Booth was angry at the south losing the wr. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Abraham Lincoln passed proclamation freeing all slaves and african americans in confederate-controlled states.More than 3 million enslaved people in the South states became free. -

The confederates Andersonville prison captured union soldiars and caused around 13,000 deaths from diseases and starvation.The cofederates captured around 45,000 men. -
13th amendment
The 13th amendment was passed in 1865 stating"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.".The south was upset because they still wanted to keep slaves.The north however was very happy because they didn't think that slavery was necessary. -

Sharecropping is when a landowner allows a tenant to use the land in return for a share of the crops produced on their portion of land. Make contract with land owner,borrow money from land owner and grow crops,earn money to maybe rent out the land....Those are the steps to the good life.Sharecropping allowed free slaves to make a living.
