Austin traveled to Mexico city to discuss the issue of Texas wanting to break away from Mexico with Mexican leaders. The Mexican government sent Austin to jail for treason, or working against one's country.

The Texan's actions angered Santa Anna. Santa Anna began assembling a group of 6,000 troops. A hastily army of Texan volunteers fought against the Mexicans for months. The Texans occupied and fortified the Alamo, an old mission that became an important battle site in the Texas Revolution. The Mexicans attacked and destroyed the Texans but the people of Texas vowed to fight on.

The Texans and Mexicans met up at the San Jacinto River to fight again. Santa Anna was confident from their victory before. While the Mexicans were resting, Sam Houston the commander of the Texan army planned a surprise attack. The Texans attacked the Mexicans screaming, "Remember the Alamo". The fight ended in less than 20 minutes and the Mexicans were destroyed. The Texans captured Santa Anna and made him sign a treaty giving Texas it's Independence.

A small group of American settlers seized the town of Sonoma. Tension began between the settlers in California and Mexico because the Americans took some horses that were intended for the Mexican militia. This then became the Bear Flag Revolt, the Americans declared California to be an independent nation

The Gold Rush started when gold was found by James W. Marshall in California. After James found the gold approximately 300,000 people came to find more gold. This increased California's population by a ton.

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo put an end on the Mexican-American War and gave the United States of America a large piece of Mexico's northern territory.
