Colonist get angry with the King's taxes on tea and other items. So they dump several dollars worth of tea into the harbor to show their resistance to the taxes. -
The Intolerable Acts
The intolerable acts were passed which included the quartering act. This causing colonists to become more resentful towards the crown. -
Common Sense
Thomas Paine publishes the pamphlet common sense pleading colonist to turn against the crown and declare independence. -
Deceleration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson writes a deceleration of independence to the king stating that we no longer followed his rules. -
Treaty of Paris
Britain finally recognizes America as an independent country. -
First President
George Washington is elected as first president of the United States.
