The colony of Jamestown was established by English settlers wanting to spread Christianity. The charter was given by King James I blessing the Virginia company to send three ships carrying 104 colonists. They landed in Chesapeake Bay region near Maryland and Virginia, they settled 40 miles inland near a river. Jamestown was the first successful English Colony in the new world, they would have failed if not for the Powhatan confederacy in aiding with food and agriculture.

During the early times of Jamestown they were barely getting by, until the creation of Tobacco by John Rolfe. Smoking was very popular in Europe, so in 1612 the colonists started growing it and exporting tobacco to Europe, using seeds brought from South America. Soon it became the most important crop in the new world, without Tobacco the colony would have most likely failed.

In 1619 an English ship called the White Lion arrived at Point Comfort, Virginia near Jamestown. This ship unloaded 20 enslaved African Americans, these were the first know slaves to land in English America. This was the beginning of two and a half centuries of slavery in North America.

Puritan separatists in England accepted a joint stock company offer. The 102 Puritans boarded the Mayflower, headed to the Virginia colony. They all signed the Mayflower compact to grant themselves the right to vote and hold office in their new settlement. When colonist settled many settlers died in the first winter, but with help of Squanto a native from Wampanoag they learned how to survive and established the first permanent English settlement in North America.

Settlers in Massachusetts framed a Pequot of murder of murdering a colonist. So they set fire to the native village, the Puritans killed the men, women, and children. Sassacus, the chief, organized attacks against the Puritans in return, but the Puritans defeated them and killed hundreds of Pequot's. The nation was soon dissolved with the Treaty of Hartford in 1638.

When Puritans took control of England, George Calvert feared he might lose Maryland, so he put many Protestant to the ruling council of the colony. The Toleration Act was a document that welcomed all Christians regardless of denomination or beliefs. His efforts were not enough as the acts were revoked, and the prosecuted Puritans soon found themselves in a new role as the main prosecutors of the Protestant peoples in Maryland.

These acts intended to increase control over the colonial economies. It required that all goods going to and from the colonies be transported only in English ships. This act was passed to hurt Dutch since they were at war with Britain. The second set of Navigation Acts were passed in 1660, this series specified that only certain products from America were only to be shipped to England.

Chief of Wampanoag's Metacomet also known as King Phillip, denied English efforts to convert Indians to Christianity. John Sassamon warned the English of the Indians preparing for war and he was later found dead. Puritans convicted Indians of crime and hung three of them. Then the native warriors burned the Puritan farms, and killed many Puritans. This fighting went until 1678 and killed more people in proportion to the population than any conflict since, became known as King Phillip's War.

Whites and Indians had a little fight on the Potomac River which led to the murder of a white herdsman. Frontiersmen retaliated by killing some two dozen Indians. Then natives attacked frontier settlements. Fighting continued to happen, and Governor Berkeley did not do anything, James Bacon organized a group of men to terrorize the natives. After frustration with Berkeley, Bacon's men burned Jamestown, but Bacon soon died. Which ended rebellion, but Berkeley was so enraged he hung 23 of his men.

Revolution in England that started with the exile of King James II and the throne being given to William of Orange and Mary. This change of the throne helped permanently establish parliament as power in England, and shifted from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. The new ruling power allowed moderate Protestantism, but no Catholicism because the new religion was Christianity.

South Carolina passed the slave codes, installed race based slavery. The codes regulated most aspects of enslaved peoples lives. This took away most every natural right of a human and turned them into property. Along with the slave codes it brought rise to slave workers as well as bringing along many slave trading companies.
