    In May of 1607, the English began a colony called James Town which was settled in Virginia. It became the first permanent settlement in North America. They chose this place as it had great benefits as having land surrounded by water which made it beneficial for them to hold their ships. The surrounding water around them made it more protective for them if they were to be attacked by the Spanish

    First African slaves to arrive to Jamestown

    During this time the English colony bought slaves from the British colonists. This event led to the starting of slavery in North America and from this event forward slavery grew.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower Compact was signed by 41 males as an agreement to live by a social contract. Which Pilgrims and passengers agreed to while on the Mayflower. They were to obey and follow rules as a group to essentially keep peace.

    Pequot War was fought for land dominance. English wanted to settle the land with their own people and displace native americans. Pequots attacked and were nearly annihilated by the English

    Beheading of King Charles

    The king was tried for treason by the parliament. He was found guilty and was beheaded by his own parliament.
  • Lord Baltimore return

    Lord Baltimore returned to power in Maryland and he also appointed and new governor also known as Josias Fendall.

    Navigation act

    British passed a series of navigation acts to restrict trading partnerships as well as to keep colonial trade between their empire. Also passed another act to require European goods to be passed between England first to be taxed.
  • Bacons Rebellion

    Bacons Rebellion

    Wealthy farmers took over and controlled the land causing poorer farmers to the perimeters. Which they lived in threat and in danger of the Indian people. Poor farmers led by Nathaniel Bacon took control and killed local Indians and went into Jamestown and burned the capital to the ground. Bacon later died and the rebellion died down and the Wealthy farmers were still in control.

    This was a revolution against Spanish religious, political, and economic institutions imposed upon the pueblos.

    Salem Witch Trials

    2 cousins started behaving strangely, physician diagnosed the girls as being under an evil hand. Eventually, others started acting this way. Then later four of these girls accused three women of controlling them and being witches. they were later arrested. One later confessed to practicing witchcraft and the others still maintained their innocence. One eventually died and the other one's husband turned on her saying she was a witch. Later she was convicted and hung.
