  • The Plymouth and London Companies

    English joint-stock company founded by James I with purpose of establishing settlements in north america.
  • Jamestown, VA

    Established by the London company. No farmers, so they were set up to starve. John Smith was the first president of the colony.
  • Tobacco in VA

    English tried to sell tobacco in England but it was unsuccessful, however, John Rolfe planted a sweeter tobacco, which was successful.

    woman arrive, 1st Africans arrive (used as indentured servants), and The House of Burgesses.
  • Mayflower Compact/ Plymouth Colony

    They set sail in September, arrived in December. Half died in the winter. They signed the Mayflower Compact aboard the ship in November. They eventually moved ashore in March on 1621.
